The one part of being indie that really sucks is that you have to hire people to do stuff that publishing houses usually do for you. You have to pay artists. You have to pay editors. Sure, you could get that stuff for free from loving readers, but it's not right to have people do the work for free. And you have to wait for what attention they can give you as they live their actual lives. And so, I am taking a page from the public broadcasting playbook and offer the independent self-publisher version of the ol' tote bag and coffee mug ploy.
