My roommate is studying to be one, too! Welcome to the site! Long-distance relationships are horrid, but I'm sure everyone's glad that you like the story in the meantime!

...you might be our first Norwegian? Not sure. Welcome!

Norway, huh? Smile That's pretty neat.

Welcome to the forums. Hope you enjoy your stay.

first of I have to say that Librarians Rock Biggrin

Wouldn`t mind beeing the first norwegian, go where none of my fellow norwegians have gone before Blum 3 If I have any quirks in my writing, please tell me, I aim to perfection in my english, hehe.

Sometimes you get what you ask for >.>
1. Capital F in First (probably a typo)
2. off, not of
3. I probably wouldn't capitalize Librarians Rock.
4. *I* wouldn't mind being (one e) the first Norwegian (capital) *to* go...
5. "please tell me. I aim" or you have a comma splice
6. "aim to perfection" might be technically OK (I'm no expert) but "aim for perfection" is by far the more common use.

But other than that, hey! Welcome aboard, good to have you around.

"Sometimes you get what you ask for >.>"-V

Especially...ESPECIALLY if one of the literal-minded locals gets there first.

And he did.

And really, the only way to learn a language is to make mistakes, as much as it sucks.

As far as point 5 goes, I think switching to the infinitive might work better: "I aim to perfect my English" sounds more natural to me. Without it, there are too many prepositions all strung together... Just my opinion though.

Side note: Wewt! Devotee status!

V's picture

Embodiment

Yes. If that wasn't clear...your message was completely understandable, and half the points were likely due to haste rather than ignorance, but still...if perfection is your goal, then the first step is slowing down and proofreading your posts. However, I didn't mean to be too harsh or scare you off or anything like that. I really meant the last part of my post Biggrin

You wrote: "5. "please tell me. I aim" or you have a comma splice" In terms of avoiding short choppy sentences, and combining related thoughts I would have used "please tell me; I aim". That said, if you look at some of my other posts you'll realize that I love our friend the semicolon.

and I probably should have suggested that myself. I go through phases where I use them all over the place. Smile

You hurt me a little, sir, as a grammar Nazi. You caught the lack of capital in "Norwegian" but missed it in "english." Languages are always capitalized.

Thank you. That is all.

Freegrassn's picture

This started as an introduction, but now it's just a grammar thread!

V's picture

At least...not until THIS subthread. The grammar one was simply a matter of unintended consequences, as the OP blithely said "If I have any quirks in my writing, please tell me, I aim to perfection in my english"

Davik's picture

Bah! Long live the thread pirates! Now if only my avatar was a skull and cross bones...

very nice; not sure I'm changing my avatar just right now, but I'll keep it in mind the next time I feel like swiping a thread for my own dark ends Smile

I just couldn't resist making one, and the joke practically wrote itself, with all the Princess Bride fans on the forums.

I'd just like to mention that your grammar enthusiasm is all the more entertaining because in my head you've become inextricably linked to your avatar. It has therefore led to me picturing all of your posts being spoken by him. I don't know why, but that made it extra amusing. Then again, you might want to check the time of this post and consider it in the light of the fact that I'm a morning person.

It's also very confusing now when I wander back to that comic ... Just thought I'd share.

And welcome November Smile

haha!
Oh my this thread turned out well.
Thank you for the tips V Biggrin
I`m gonna watch what I write and try not to be to annoying Wink
But yes, I have some typos and it is mostly(you often can tell what is a typo and whats not) because I have this really, really small laptop (asus eee) and I`m trying to get used to the ridiculous small buttons, hehe.

^____^

You may go back to hijacking the thread into piracy, I don`t mind!

I'm wondering if maybe it's just your keyboard, but I'd noticed that your apostrophes point in the wrong direction. You use this one: `. Most people use this one: '. I don't know about the EEE, but on a normal keyboard, the first one is the one under the tilde (~) on the top left corner of the keyboard, and the other is below the double quotes (") next to the "Enter" key.

Also, you generally want an apostrophe in "what's", as in, "you often can tell what is a typo and what's not"

I've defiled my computer. After you said that, I had to satisfy my curiosity, so I opened the 10 most recent in tabs. Dear god. I don't think my laptop will ever forgive me.

If you ever stop writing, I think we're all going to need a 12 step program. I know I would.

November's picture

Even tho I have you, meilin followed on twitter I still check for updates every 4th hour or so. I would need total rehab if this story stopped Sad

Also I giggled so hard over the comic strip! My favorite kind of library user is the teenage girl coming to me asking "scuse me! do you have some fantasy for girls, would rather like it to be some...romance in it, you know what I mean?"

As soon as your book hits Norway it`s going in my library!
