Valentine's Day

So, this is only my second Valentine's Day where I've had asignificant other, and I have NO idea what to get for him. He's a gamer but he doesn't want any new games atm, he isn't the jewelry type (I can barely get him to wear his engagement ring), and won't give me any ideas. Any one have ideas on what would be a good present? Any input would be appreciated!

Eep, I need to figure out what to get my gamer!
My go-to gift spot for all things geeky: http://www.thinkgeek.com/index.shtml

Edit:
Occurred to me that they might not have Valentine's stuff up, but you can get creative with some of them. I looked, and they do. This one's interesting, and a little... ok, very dorky: http://www.thinkgeek.com/tshirts-apparel/interactive/a090/

My younger brother bought those shirts for himself and his girlfriend, and they actually work very well! He loves wearing it to school so all his gamer friends can see it.

I recommend:
http://store.xkcd.com/ (Extra points to signed prints and the posters; if he's a programmer, the Code Compiling shirt as well)
or
http://www.noobstore.com/ (Probably the shirts/hoodies that say "I pwn n00bs" or the "No n00bs" or "Boom headshoot" or maybe "Uber gamer". Or the sign that says "No n00bs". If he plays D&D, the TShirt of Pure Pwnage is on sale. Everything else is basically in-jokes for the site's owner's web TV show, so I'd skip it).

If he needs a fancy new mouse, mousepad, headset, maybe one of those? I got my boy a set of headphones with a microphone so he could yell at the people he was gaming with, and he LOVES it (needless to say, he's also a gamer). I'll ask him for more ideas when he finishes killing zombies Biggrin

Subscription to game Informer magazine?
Something from thinkgeek.com (almost anything)
Something from Jinx.com

I have a geek of my own.

consider something smokin' from the Lover's Temple (link on the right under "Just in Time for Valentine's." Plus it helps the site!

Well, stepping away from the gamer ideas, just a home cooked dinner for 2, bottle of wine and a coupon for a good massage, by his one and only... light some candles, soft music, and a bit of oil... Shows you care, and can be lots of fun for both parties...

A few suggestions (some gamer specific, some more generic):
-A subscription to a gaming magazine. If he is a general geek, stuff like Make magazine, or a computing magazine would also be cool.
-I agree...think-geek and jinx are awesome.
-Is he a physics/engineering geek? These are really freaking awesome.
-A funny t-shirt (does he have a fav webcomic? what is his sense of humor like? xkcd is always good, but there are a ton of them out there. thinkgeek also has stuff like that.)
-Books. A lot of gamers tend to like sci-fi/fantasy books as well. Robert Heinlein? William Gibson? Asimov? I'm sure people here could recommend books as well.
-A gift certificate for someplace you would like to take him, even if it's something you can't use until it gets warmer.
-A cookbook of aphrodisiacs or something along those lines if you guys ever cook together (or for each other or whatever)
-Silk boxers/sheets, or something sexy for you.
-Sex toys always make amazing presents, and there are a surprising number that are designed for guys or for couples to use together. If you're looking for recommendations there, I definitely have some favorites (as I'm sure many people here do), so feel free to ask Smile

That's all I have in my head right now. I'll come back and edit if I think of anything else. Good luck!

if he's a pc gamer then see if he has a good headset. most gamers use sucky ones they got for $10. the sucky ones sound shitty and make your ears and head sore. also with a sucky one you sound dorky.

i have several headsets. my backup one is logitec's top of the line USB set. it's pretty nice but there are better ones.

my preferred headset is a bit expensive and not practical for some people: a Bose QC3 noise-canceling set. it rocks and it also costs around $300. it's also not a headset... but for $40 you swap the cord it comes with for a cord for use with an iPhone (or other phones with included adapter) and this iPhone cord includes a mic. with the cord it's a headset but the plug type only works with an iPhone or mac. maybe you can find a cord that includes a mic and is pc-friendly. the QC3s feel amazingly comfortable even after a long time, they sound like pure sex for music and voice, and they have noise canceling. the noise canceling makes all the pesky distractions (i.e. girlfriend, lol) seem less distracting. the one dawback is that the QC3s use a rechargeable battery that lasts about 25 hours so you need to recharge it before you go to bed. if you forget or play more than 25 hours straight you have to switch to the backup USB set.

The QC3 is also ***really nice*** if you travel on planes a lot, which I do.

Well, I too have a gamer and my wallet is not really well fed at the moment I was thinking I should bake some cookies Biggrin
imo making nice memories and turning valentines day into something else then the peer pressured holiday to buy something is so much better.

I was thinking chocolate cupcakes with "
but there are so many awesome geeky ideas on the web, google it and get inspiration.

You don't need to spend a big chunk of change, unless you know for sure he is gonna drop a pile on you. The gifts don't always have to be equal (last Christmas I gave my guy a book, and he gave me an engagement ring ;-D), but I know it feels better if they are close-ish in 'worth'.
Bake him cookies/cupcakes, or buy him a couple things of his favorite candy, or take him out to eat somewhere he'd like to go but might not normally feel comfortable spending the much money or making the long drive to get there, something like that. Food is good because everyone needs it, so you just go with what kinds make them happy Wink

Steak and a blowjob.

I actually never understood why that was a different day. Women get flowers and chocolate men get steak and a blowjob... it's a perfect date!

I like the way you think. Now, if only I could get my wife to be of similar mind.

Now, March 14th is generally accepted to be Steak and BJ day.
http://steakandbj.com/v2/
I personally prefer to make it a separate holiday from VD. Don't screw up and a beej could be in the cards, anyway. Why not go for all of the pomp and circumstance of your own holiday? There really isn't a lot else out there for the gentlemen.

I don't like how Valentine's Day has become this "not good enough" holiday. People complain it's all about women, all about couples, etc. I think that Valentine's Day should be about sex and everyone who is a product of such actions. "Happy Valentine's Day Mom and Dad, thank you for having sex!" "Grandma and Grandpa! Thank you as well and thank you for making sure that Mom and Dad gave you grandkids!!" "Brother and Sister, I'm glad Mom and Dad had more sex so that I wouldn't be lonely." "In Laws, thank you for not killing me when I had sex with your daughter." "Son, Daughter, you're the exact opposite of an STD..."

I don't celebrate Sweetest Day (well I gave Slagar a card, but that was just cause it had a cute pun and a cupcake on it), I only celebrate March 14th with pie, and I like it that way. No more adding holidays >.

I think it's nice to have a day where you appreciate other people, and do silly couples things. It's a goofy excuse to do goofy stuff that maybe normally you would be too shy or self-conscious to do. As far as single people are concerned, I know a lot of people who use V-day as a "sit at home by myself with a bucket of ice cream" day, but every time I've been single at Valentines day, I've gone out to hang out with people and meet other single people. The cool ones are always the ones who go out and do cool stuff on Valentines day, so it's pretty neat to meet those people. On the other hand, maybe I will call my parents, and thank them for having me. I'm pretty sure I was a V-day baby anyway.

I also think you can never have too much steak, and you can never give too many blow jobs. You can also never eat too much pi Smile

LOL steak and a blowjob! Too bad he's not a steak guy (I know I was shocked too) Blum 3

I guess I didn't think sex right of the top of my head because it's assumed (I'm coming back from college for the weekend ;P), but spicing it up is a great idea, I like the idea of aphrodisiac cooking!

Thanks again everyone!

Pumpkin ravioli... pumpkin apparently increases testosterone or something?

Actually, the whole steak thing basically is just 'his favorite' meal, and the blowjob is sexual service. Sexy lingerie, his favorite meal, a blowjob while he plays Guitar Hero... that's what he really wants...

actually, i've tried to distract him from his gaming a few times and he just kinda... stops and looks and me with a sort of "do you mind?" look. he's a special boy. >_>
