Rejection, and unrelated Brother's Temple question
I got rejected today by Gryphonwood Press. Don't send them hate mail; it's okay. I was kinda hoping they'd say no. I'm liking how it's going with the self-publishing model. It sounds really egotistical to say so, but I really think I can go 1000 True Fans here, given time.
That very much relies on you guys. I know not all of you are going to be able or willing to throw me a buck or two from time to time. In fact, some very prominent members of this community haven't sent me a dime, but that's okay--I'm not complaining, honest. What it means is--you've heard this song before--you have to help me grow the community. And I'm doing my best to figure out how to grow it myself. I'm not so much with the marketing thing, and just as I don't fall into a comfortable box with the publishing world, I don't fall into a comfortable box with the marketing world, either.
If I can only rely on 5% of you, WHICH IS OKAY, I'm really not trying to guilt-trip, it means I need way more readers to make this viable; if 1000 = 5%, then 20,000 = 100%. I need 20,000 readers. I currently have about 1,000 readers. Yep, 50 of you support the serial, 21 of you on a subscription basis, with one of those 21 having given me a ridiculous sum of money that otherwise would mean we wouldn't meet the story target but once or so a month.
It also means i need to spend more time on t-shirts and swag and stuff to help bolster the effort. Which brings me to the second thing!
I'm working on a Temple of Farr shirt right now, Farr stuff being the second most-requested stuff after Lovers' Temple stuff. I also think I'm going to rework or add to the Lovers' Temple line. So here's the question: Brother's Temple or Warrior's Temple? Which would you would-be acolytes of Farr prefer?
