Love love love

Ah, hello, fellow bibliophiles and logophiles; Hello, Mei! Love the Kingdom, and when I became a fan on Facebook, I thought it was silly that I hadn't created an account here yet. I look forward to posting and chatting with all of you!

I'm intrigued by your signature, particularly the last bit. What spurred you to choose it?

It serves as a reminder to think before I agree with - or to - anything, to hold to myself when my natural inclination is more ... obliging. I interpret the last part to mean that what some people think is love can simply be the love of love (The Great Gatsby is a wonderful, if wandering, example of this). In a more general sense, it could also mean that people deny their real 'passions' for those that are more widely held. And ain't that the truth!
It also amuses me that this bit of wit is so famous, and much copied, even as it pokes subtle fun at the copier.
Also, thanks! Wink

although I took a slightly different angle. I was first amused by "their passions a quotation", then on reflection, decided that it was a pretty good exhortation to think critically and independently. Taking it and putting it in a signature, that blob of text so often filled with someone else's words that the poster uses to make a statement about themselves...well, that was just too funny Biggrin

Never let anyone induce you to play a drinking game to The Princess Bride. Because, inevitably, you'll have to take a drink every time Westley says 'As You Wish' and you'll be piss drunk in the first five minutes.
On second thought, this can be very fun. Do it to your friends. Have a camera.

Well, that's not the worst drinking game I've heard of associated with Princess Bride. A friend of mine got so fed up with people quoting the movie while they were watching it that he declared a new drinking game. If you were going to quote the movie, you had to do the WHOLE movie, including getting the tone right, and every time you messed up a line take a drink. Also, since I'm apparently just now catching that you put up an introduction, welcome!
