A Lurker Revealed

Evening, all. I'm just a little ole person from the Midwest, of the female persuasion. I've been reading since about the third chapter, but have been lurking...because only fortytwo minutes ago as I type this was I legally 18. Ahaha, oops. Anyway...so, yes. I'm a youngin', in my senior year of highschool, and obviously rather more mature than many my age. I'm gonna be attending college in the fall, and will be majoring in english and minoring in theater arts. I'm into acting, reading, singing, sleeping, baking, and cats. Ummm..hmm. I dunno what else to add? I'm currently in Chicago for vacation and I'm going to go see Wicked later tonight? Is that exciting?

You ARE 18 now, right? OK then! Happy birthday! Biggrin

(All you other underage lurkers, jeebus, you're supposed to be of age, you guys.)

Liability and legality-wise, you're right of course, Mei. On the other hand, I was reading sexually explicit fiction by around age 14... And 14 year olds can buy Maxim magazines which are almost as bad... Wink

Happy birthday, Paperclip! Your life and your real education are just beginning - good luck and have fun Smile

it is, and I am. And I've been waiting for months to post. So at least I didn't lie about my age. Pardon

I did the same thing when I was your age. Now that was almost 13 years ago.

Hope your birthday treats you well...

my 18th was a monday, with a 3 hour exam.

I was so interested, right after I read the part about baking cats. I then realized there was an "and" between those two words.

I wanna see Wicked with you! *hides in your pocket*

...also, welcome and happy birthday. And don't feel too bad about your age. I was reading sexually explicit stuff when I was in 5th grade, which is, what...10 or 11? XD You know...that might not be a good thing. *ponders*

...but it wasn't in a way that could get the creator in trouble--ie, no one knew nor cared back then. Now it's all "think of the children!!!"

So all I ask my underage lurkers (because I believe you're out there, naughty things, and you shouldn't be) is this: Please understand when I officially say you're not supposed to be here, because you're not. Please don't ask me to friend you on Facebook or MySpace, because I can't. I got one girl's nose in a serious bend when I wouldn't friend her because she was 17. "What, you got something against teenagers?" No, I got something against jail. Smile

I have no protection other than your word, folks. If you say you're 18, I have no way of knowing you're not. But YOU are not the one who will get in trouble if you're found out. Just please keep that in mind. Thank you.

Responsible of you. Covering the legal ass and all that. The smart ones will stay lurkers until they're of age.

Do you guys think there are adverse effects to reading/talking to older people online or in person/looking at stuff online/etc at a young age? I was really curious about sexuality and all of that, and I started exploring that sort of thing online at a young age, and I was wondering what people thought about that. It sounds like a lot of you were in the same boat, but I was wondering if anyone knows anything about it. It's like with movies, movies with violence aren't given as strong of a rating on the G/PG/PG-13/etc scale as movies with sex in them. Do you think early exposure (I'm not talking about anything physical, obviously that would be bad, but just looking at stuff/being exposed to pictures, movies, or stories online or in books or magazines or whatever) is harmful? Do you think it could lead to unhealthy attitudes about sex, or sex addiction or whatever? I don't know much about psychology, let alone child/teen psychology, but I would be really interested in input from all of you thoughtful/knowledgeable people. Thanks!

I def have some stuff to say on the topic, and I'm sure others do too. Would it be more conducive to create a new thread for this conversation? I-m so happy
