Overcoming Shyness

Hi, everyone. I've been hanging around for a while, but sometime after high school I lost my outgoing nature and am now shy in almost everything. = P

The reason I decided to do my intro now is because I have a task. I need to figure out what to smell like.

My name is Heather, but there's too many Heathers in the world, so I go by Kittae. (It was Kitty but I live in the south and it often comes out as "Kit-tay".) I'm an anthropology major and it takes up so much time that I usually read this, Tales of MU, and study. That's my day. I-m so happy I'm jobless, so I may put up here in detail my little project of making kanzashi (fabric-origami hair things) if you guys would be interested.

A while ago, though, I bought a huge bag of henna so I'd be able to do my hair for a long while. I have all the stuff to dye with, but I'm running low on the smell-goods that I usually use (herbs, spices, oils, etc) to make me smell good for a couple weeks after dying. I'm looking around BPAL, but I haven't been in their site for so long that everything's unfamiliar and I can't pick out what I'd like. Henna itself smells like grassy mud, flavored a little by whatever acid I put in to activate the dye (lemon, lime, vinegar, whatever), and honey. I usually wear Bath and Body Work's Japanese Cherry Blossom 'cause I like how it smells like the whole event of a blossom-viewing--wood smells, rice, and some spices on top of the cherry blossoms. Any ideas?

Whereabouts in the South?

And I know nothing about these smelly things of which Mei always speaks...

I'm in the butt-end of Georgia. I go to the University of West Georgia, which is in a little po-dunk, empty part of Georgia bordering on Alabama.

I'm actually very close to that...!

I live about an hour north of Atlanta, in Canton.

How small the world!

Funny, I'm also from Georgia, specifically from Marietta north of Atlanta. I go to school in South Carolina, though. Smile

Try Kyoto:

A gentle, soothing blend of cherry blossom, white sandalwood and star anise.

Or Aizen-Myoo:

Yuzu, kaki, and mikan with cherry blossom and black tea.

Both are in the general catalog, and so are imp-able (sample sizes are available). The other suggestion I have are un-impable and much more expensive Salon scents--there are a bunch of those--Spirit of the Komachi Cherry Tree, The Lantern Ghost of Oiwa, Fox Fires on New Year's Eve at the Garment Nettle Tree at Oji or The Fox-woman Kuzunoha Leaving Her Child.

and HAI!

Oh, the Lantern Ghost and the Fox-Woman both are awesome-sounding. Kyoto would probably go with my normal perfooms--and maybe replace it eventually, because I just hate the chemical undertones of B&BW stuff. But Aizen-Myoo sounds so much sexier. = P

Is probably still my favorite scent thus far. It's absolutely perfect, even if it doesn't stay more than an hour and a half or so. I wouldn't call it sexy, maybe because it's so fresh and juicy. The yuzu (lime) comes out really strongly but then fades into the kaki (persimmon) and mikan (tangerine). The sakura and tea are there too, but in the background. Funnily enough, it always ends up smelling a little like wild chamomile on me, which is fantastic, since I love chamomile. Anyhow, I just can't say enough good things about Aizen-myoo. It's the only scent I've ever really wanted an entire bottle of.

By the way, Meilin- I tried On Darkness yesterday, and smelled just like the hippie store in my hometown, and then I smelled like Death Cap underneath incense! Is that one you are going to try?

Seriously, if I'm going to get through them all by the 15th of January I've got to get cracking. I've only tried Gelt (love) and All They Had Seen And All They Had Lost (given to No1 Daughter--reminded me instantly of her). I have like 30 to try or some other ungodly number, I've lost count! And I still have an Anniversary set coming, too.

All They Had Seen And All They Had Lost is quite the name. What does it smell like?

Tell me the subject is an Earthbound reference? please?

No, sorry. = P One day, though, I will get in on the Earthbound jokes.

I really like the name, Kittae- its kinda cute, but with a cool twist. Anyway- glad to see another shy person come of the woodwork. So what is this kanzashi thing you mentioned? I've never heard of it before, but it sounds very interesting.

There's shy people all over, just some of us have been lurking long enough to get over it Biggrin Welcome, I'm glad you decided to speak up.

The Vixen just made me watch Dr. Horrible for the first time yesterday, and I instantly "got" about half a dozen sigs/avatars. The song yours is from is absolutely brilliant. I really hope that Dr. Horrible winds up getting nominated for best short at this year's Oscars. I can dream.

It's right before the riff about a shiny new Australia }:) Check out Stormy's avatar, too, for an icon that will make much more sense now. And someone around here was using "the hammer is my penis" as an in-joke with his girl...mighta been TheBugKing. We're a classy bunch around here Biggrin

And if you aren't familiar with my av, that's Richard. Check out lfgcomic.com for the online version of an excellent comic, or if you remember "Part of Your World" from The Little Mermaid, listen to his cover of it on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fcbazH6aE2g

Kanzashi is a little arts-and-crafts thing I picked up from some great tutorials on DeviantArt. In a general sense, kanzashi are just hair ornaments of different types. Tsumami kanzashi is taking little squares of fabric and folding them to make flower petals, then stickin' those all together to make simple or complex flower arrangements. Most folks use silk, but I'm trying to start out with cotton--it doesn't water-spot, the world doesn't end if they fall into the washing machine on accident, and it's cheaper.

I love kanzashi!
