Today from the Box of Squee: Lady Lilith

The last of the "baby commemoratives" from the BPAL.org forum, Lady Lilith is based on the Dante Gabriel Rossetti painting, and thus is properly a Salon scent (perfumes based on paintings). The official notes:

Climbing rose, vanilla cream, vanilla flower, white tea, mandarin, red and white musks, opium poppy, Parma violet, and opoponax.

In the bottle: I really pick up the mandarin and the tea, and a slightly decaying smell of violets.

Wet: Tea, mandarin...wow, it's fading as I sniff...

Dry: Hm, this is just not me. I'm not getting any rose or cream or musk, just a very light white tea and mandarin with some violet. It's pretty, but I think I'm putting it up for trade because I don't love it, and I'm focusing on what I love. Same with yesterday. It is so essence of babysmell that Sir doesn't care for it on me, and while I love it I'm not sure I want to smell of babysmell either at this stage of my life.

OMG ONE OF MY BOXES CAME ALREADY

So, I tried out The Hesperides.
[S]turdy oak bark, dew-kissed leaves, twilight mist and crisp apple.

In the imp: Whoa strong. Not sure I like it and I can't pick out anything in particular.

Wet: Apple. Very sweeeeeet apple.

Dry: still very sweet and apply, but with kinda a bitter undertone. As it fades it gets more balanced, but it's still pretty sweet.

I don't dislike it, but it's not my new scent.

Mei, how do you keep to only one scent a day????? I wanna try them aaaaaaaaaaalllllllllllllllll

Wash it off and try another! Some people do patches up and down their arms, but I don't like the confusion that results. And also, I like to see what the "stay" is of a scent--how long it lasts. But if you've just gotten a bunch of stuff, wash off what you've tried and put on a new one!

I love apple, I may have to try Hesperides. I'm dying for my 'weenie imps; there's a bunch of apples in there. If Fearful Pleasure doesn't work on me I'm gonna cry so hard!

Not the mighty one

but people do decant circles, that is one person puts in an order and decants the bottles into imp vials for the people who have joined the circle. The other day I saw pictures from a *huge* decant circle in the lj comm sinandsalvation. It's impressive how some people do it. I'd love to, but can't afford to get my own right now, let alone cover the spots that don't sell before the order goes in to the lab.

... would be my guess. Not that I have the slightest idea about BPAL apart from what MeiLin has talked about here.

Decant circles on BPAL.org. One more reason why the forum is a mighty place. Another reason: I just scored a decant of SGA! I also made commitments to swap a bunch of stuff, so off to the PO with me.

Even though

it sounds like something that I'd like at least a whiff of, I still can't even get myself to put it on my wishlist because of Rossetti. I had to read a bunch of his stuff in Victorian Literature last fall and I just never did like him and after researching his life, I was very turned off (even though he has some wonderful paintings, I still don't really like him or them - I just recognize the talent in them.) Confounded man! Ruining the sniff-pretty fun for me! ^_^ I know it's pathetic, but it's like there's a real block there.

Assholes abound in art

Bing Crosby beat the hell out of his kids, Monet starved his family to buy paint, the list of talented assholes is long. It does ruin it alot for me too. I have to grit my teeth through a Bing Crosby song.
