Some of you may be wondering why I'm so devoted to BPAL. I mean, there are lots of perfume companies that put out lovely scents; why them? This is why. These people are freaking hilarious and they have astonishing noses to boot.
I really love the theme of their scents. Its all so dark and creepy in the loveliest of ways, and to be honest I've never smelled anything half as wonderful as some of the things that have come out of the lab!
Same people, slightly different enterprise. BPTP is all the non-perfume stuff that the BPAL crew does, including t-shirts (there's a new one for every Lunacy), yoga pants, scent lockets, etc. Sometimes their offerings, like the MVJBA stuff, have perfumes attendant.
A "nose" in perfumespeak is the person who designs the perfume. There are two noses at BPAL--Beth and Brian--and I think Beth's husband Tedwin does some of the designing, too.
Also, thank you for sharing your BPAL love with us. Such is the beauty of the internet - I come for a fantastic story and discover a whole realm of something else awesome I had never considered before (perfume fandom, much less niche gothic perfumeries, weren't exactly on my radar before this).
Seriously. One of my life goals is to do a charity line of "History" scents at BPAL. I'm nowhere near that point, but some day...some day...
@Capriox, I had no idea perfumes had fandoms, either! It cracked me up so bad when I found BPAL.org, and then the next thing I knew...one of them, one of them...
I'm tempted by the Pancake shirt myself! I also think the Guppies one is hysterical. I'm not at all tempted by any of the perfumes though. It's probably for the best as I'm destashing scents right now.
That's the shirt I want. I've always had a thing for whippoorwills. They are probably my favorite bird along with owls, robins and bluebirds. I love hearing them at night some times and always keep my window open just in case. I just can't justify the expense on the shirt right now.
I don't know if you are apart of the Sin and Salvation community on LJ but someone is selling a bottle of Deathcap through there. "-- Death Cap, at shoulder. - $12.00" I thought you might be interested, if you are let me know and I can get you in touch with the seller!
I'm sorta being forced not to buy any more smellies for a month or so; Sir is standing by the door flap with a wicker cane, just waiting for another little Priority Mail box or padded envelope to drop through it. He seems to think that 3-4 doz bottles and about 500 imps is enough.
Foolish man.
He'll get his revenge, though. I'm part of a 'weenies decant circle that hasn't shipped yet and I'm waiting on my bottles of Baby Lilith commemoratives. When those drop through the slot, my ass is toast.
Wow, 500 imps! I set myself a limit of $20 on BPAL per month, and I'm only a *little* over. Really. Right now I have coming to me bottles of Ebisu Making Love (my favorite scent so far - I could bathe in it), Cairo (lemony incense), and Stimulating Sassafras Strengthener. And Halloweenie decants.
I've never really liked most traditional perfumes, but I love bpal.
500 imps is imp-ressive. (sorry, I swore I wasn't going to make that joke.) I'm not allowed to get any more until I have a job (this is 5 months into the job search with no luck) and have enough set aside for my first college loan payment (due in Dec.) and have my credit card paid off ($300). I shouldn't have bought the $30 worth of imps that I did, but they were so cheap and had some of the scents I really wanted to try... It always starts that way, doesn't it?
I only bought about half of them, and the vast majority of the rest were on the forum cheap cheap cheap. I think I've bought two imp six-packs direct from the lab. Mokie, I love SSS myself! Haven't tried Cairo or Ebisu. I'll have to try Cairo; I love anything lemony. Mmmm...Whitechapel...
I'm glad none of the scents from the last 2 updates really appealed to me. I have some 'weenie decants coming in a couple of weeks and I'm really enjoying my Samhain atmosphere spray.
I actually have about a 15% success rate with blends I think will work. With frimps from the Lab or other addicts its about 5%. Is that unusual? I guess it's good on one hand that it saves me money but it's pretty frustrating to test a bunch of imps and then put them in the "no way" pile.
In my copious free time, har har, I have registered the domain "perfoom.com" and want to put up a database for scent companies like BPAL. Members will be able to track what scents they have, what they want, what notes work well for them, what they've tried, potential recommendations, etc.
When I've got that up, then I'll be able to tell you. I think I have a 50% fail rate; of those, a few go into the trade box and more go into the little girl boxes. Of the 50% not-fails, only about half of those go into the "buy" box, the rest go into the "keep" box--stuff I like, but don't want to buy.
BPAL has sucked up most of my formerly free time. I have a 15% "keep" rate, my "buy" rate is lower than that. I have 4 bottles now and one I don't think I will keep long term. I'm only holding on to it because it's my sign, Leo.

Huh?
I apologize, but I don't follow. What does that site have to do with BPAL? Noses? Huh?
BPTP = BPAL sister site

I really want that pancake breakfast shirt.
*snerk* MVJBA FTW!!

I love it. I'm just starting to get involved in BPAL... it's addicting.

And yeah, BPAL is addicting. My bitty shell box o' imps is on the bookshelf next to me and I love them so!
Moonbeasts #1!
I am really hoping these stick around for at least a little while. $35 is more than I could spend on a shirt, but I am so sorely tempted.

Thanks
You introduced me to both Firefly and BPAL, as well as writing a wonderful story. Bless you.
Me FTW!
Now if I can just get you knitting and spinning, my enabling will be complete.
amusing
I totally want a guppy shirt! $35 for just the shirt though seems really expensive.
