Submitted by viruslife on Tue, 08/05/2008 - 3:17pm
Hi everyone,
My new photo should be a wedding ring mine in fact. This ring is based on a virus. So here is the deal, name it and I donate money.
Within 8 hrs 50 dollars
Within 24 hrs 40 dollars
Within 48 hrs 30 dollars
Within 72 hrs 20 dollars
By next Tuesday 10 dollars
Here is the one hint I will give you the ring is upside down. Sorry V you know me too well you don't get to play. Also for those of you who aren't in the comments and forms yet but have seen it in person, you know who you are you don't get to play either.
Have fun and good luck,

Ebola
Wow, I really expected it to take longer than this. Yes it is Ebola.
Next time I might just have to describe it instead.
MeiLin you will be getting your $50 after my check clears this week :).
Congrats,

Aww I was hoping someone
Aww I was hoping someone didn't beat me to ebola. I recognized it from my plush ebolavirus that I got for valentine's.

holy cats!
That was fast, and you, viruslife, have an odd idea of romance.
Is ebola a virus you study specifically, or what?
And thanks!!

romance
No I do not study Ebola, I don't want to go near it. But when I was younger there was an outbreak and thats when I decided I wanted to be a microbiologist. I was going to solve all the mysteries of Ebola. And so that was the start of what lead me down my life path. As such the now hubby keeps getting me Ebola themed stuff.
Also welcome, I like supporting the arts :).

I'm rather confused... How is
I'm rather confused...
How is playing a game like this derived from you being evil? If seems similar to a statement of "I'm evil so I will save all these drowning puppies!"
It somehow doesn't strike fear into my bones. Perhaps I am odd though. My wife certainly thinks I am so there is likely truth in that. (I think I'm average! [because everyone knows that normal is average right???])

I s'pose
that calling her a poser would be in poor taste since she's busy supporting our wonderful author. But she does sometimes confuse 'odd', 'unusual', or 'not quite right in the head' with much more insidious motivations. I think it's why she got along with me so well.
Come to think of it, that sorta seems like a prereq for fitting in well here, too. Neat
But yes, any puppies or kittens in her vicinity will surely remain undrowned. Goats too, probably.

Sheep on the other
Sheep on the other hand....
Sorry couldn't resist.
I am certainly not calling her a poser. I just find the assertion that helping others is evil to be very amusing. It was nicely camouflaged in a devious contest so as to seem evil. I am certain that the contest is where the evil behavior is coming from, however I deliberately looked at the actual act and not the facade and drew my own conclusions.
No ill will meant. (I can't resist the opportunity to be a bit abrasive. A failing of mine)

As someone who raises goats,
As someone who raises goats, I appreciate them being spared too
And as a first-time commenter, I'd like to add the obligatory "ZOMG this story is SO GOOD squeeeeeeeee!"

Goats are disturbingly
Goats are disturbingly intelligent for herbivores.
I have a healthy respect for the critters. Something that can survive domestication and remain intelligent is a good creature in my book. I certainly do have a prejudice against sheep and domestic turkeys though. Something that will drown in a rain storm because it is too stupid to figure out that it should close its mouth is good for food and nothing else.

I certainly don't think she's evil!
Even if she does have a wedding ring modeled on the ebola virus!

evil
So now I'm confused I thought it was evil to dangle money in front of our wonderful author and possibly not give it to her based on everyone else. Oh well, I'll just have to think up something different for next time.
And just for the record all drowning animals would be spared even sheep.

You will note that I did not
You will note that I did not say that drowning sheep was on the daily agenda. I only commented on their mental capabilities when on beaches with the tide out. I understand why the animal was domesticated. I still don't like the things as they are truly as dumb as a box of rocks!
Wild sheep and wild turkeys are quite wily critters!
I suppose that the frustration comes from seeing what the species is supposed to be like and what controlled breeding programs has done to them. It's really sad in a lot of ways.

I think to make that evil you
I think to make that evil you would have to promise money that Mei actually needed to survive in some fashion. Then at the critical moment rescind the offer after it was too late for Mei to find another rout to solve the problem. That way you would be causing her great harm. That would be evil.
Setting up a contest where others dictated how much money you would be giving to Mei (Which was going to be something with the way you structured the contest) is a bit devious and probably caused Mei some excitement. That is certainly not evil. In fact that is quite fun. It is a common thing for people to claim their actions are evil to draw attention to them. True evil on the other hand is not often seen in a public forum. I wouldn't suggest that you try either. Chances are that the public reaction to such behavior will be quite violent.
That all being said, I love the fact that you claimed it was evil. It's a lot of fun to play with ideas like that especially when the action behind the "act" is quite altruistic. The reason why I found this all amusing and commented on it is that my train of thought basically followed what I just typed above. Social behavior is constantly a great source of amusement to me. I like to try to share that amusement if I can.

Do you get strange looks when you tell people that your husband gave you the ebola virus? Haha, I keep chuckling to myself just thinking about it.

They are tasty
My favorite tortas place closed down and I don't have a good place to buy goat or cactus flower anymore.
That said, they do make great pets as well, as long as you keep an eye on them and make sure they're not eating your pants off your leg [or to make sure the neighbors don't eat it]. There's just something about a critter that wants to buck heads when it plays.
