Here is a picture of me doing a bit of work.

Rappelling is fun.

Have I mentioned I'm afraid of heights?
Alas, I cannot tell thee what I look like. Yet. Some day, possibly.
Sun, 07/20/2008 - 1:05pm
Yes, Fear of heights is an instant cause for eliminating rigging from a possible career path. This job was actually tame. The challenge was getting to the location in the first place. It took about 45 minutes of crawling through the facility roof joists. My coworker (who was taking the pictures) actually had to crawl back. I was the lucky one who got to rappel to the deck.
I'll see if I can dig up some pictures of the arena work I have done. These pics are at about 50 feet. The arena stuff is at 120 feet.
Tue, 02/10/2009 - 8:38am
I know exactly what you look like. But I found that before I saw this thread. It was accidently on purpose when I made my first donation and it went to somwhere other than here. Wanted to make sure it hadn't been redirected.
Tue, 02/10/2009 - 11:21am
I'm a lot less paranoid now than I was. Mostly right now I'm trying to keep my names two google results pages apart. Honestly, I don't care any more. I can feel the two IDs starting to come together.
Sun, 07/20/2008 - 4:57pm
I don't mind posting a picture of myself (I'm entirely too vain for my own good, at times), but I'm not sure how well this page will handle having twenty people throwing up three images each. One reason I always use my symbol (my own, actually, I commissioned a friend), since it's pretty light on the bandwidth.
I also want it on record that your job is way cool, and I wouldn't mind getting to play with some of the equpiment pictured. How did you wind up in that line of work, if you don't mind my asking?
Sun, 07/20/2008 - 5:20pm
Quote: I also want it on record that your job is way cool, and I wouldn't mind getting to play with some of the equipment pictured. How did you wind up in that line of work, if you don't mind my asking?
Not at all.
I started working for my parents as a fabricator at Arrowsmith Forge. www.arrowsmithforge.com if you are curious.
In high school I worked a few plays and then in college. I went for an IT degree by the way.
After deciding that working for my parents was not my life path I started working at a local community theater as an assistant technical director.
At this point my then girlfriend, now wife, got a job in Florida teaching. Since I was making about 12K a year I figured I had nothing to lose.
The way I got my foot in the door at my company was as follows:
My mother's friend’s old college room mate knew someone who worked in the company. Yup.
I've been with the company for five years now and have moved up the ranks quite a bit. I am half of the sales estimating and as well as a field supervisor and our company software development person.
I also piss on fires for the company more then any one else.
The first three job descriptions could easily be 40 to 50 hour a week jobs. The fireman fluctuates drastically.
(Right now I am working on the road during the week because one of our senior supervisors got fired and I am picking up the slack)
Ultimately, if you want to do something like this you usually need to know someone and then be willing to work harder then you ever have before. Our new hires usually last less then a week. We function at hell week speeds all the time. Nothing is ever done quick enough and you can never work hard enough. I am constantly trying to juggle what is the highest priority crisis. If you don't love the job you simply can't do it I guess.
Sun, 07/20/2008 - 5:39pm
do lovely work.
That's how these things happen, we fall into them. Sometimes literally. Well. I hope *you* don't fall literally, seeing as how you're like 100 feet up in the air, but you know what I mean.
Sun, 07/20/2008 - 11:55pm
that's what links are for.
this is our generic 'couple' pic
Sun, 07/20/2008 - 11:59pm
You are beautiful, and you both look very happy in that photo.
Mon, 07/21/2008 - 10:22am
Basically, I told Slagar I wanted a couples picture for my facebook profile, we were in the elevator, his friend held my phone and took the picture. I think the 'happy' is just general amusement at the randomness of the event.
Sun, 08/03/2008 - 11:41pm
Hi I just wanted to show everyone a photo and was wondering how you would link it like you did.
Tue, 08/05/2008 - 9:43pm
Just copy and paste the link from the URL line into the post.
The forum will parse the URL and automatically create it as a link. Very easy.
The hard way to do the link (So that it has nice descriptive text) is as follows:
Type in (open carrot. The thing over the ",") a href = "http://(link)" title = "put flowery text here" (close carrot. The thing over the ".")Put flowery text here (open carrot)/a(close carrot)
So for my parents website I could do this:
(Copy and paste)www.arrowsmithforge.com
(Typed in all that extra HTML garbage)My parents have some really great stuff on their website!
Tue, 08/05/2008 - 10:50pm
The problem was this wasn't an online pic but rather one on my desktop. MeiLin helped me this morning and thus I got to play my game :).
Wed, 02/11/2009 - 3:07pm
It's so, so lovely. And I think it's great your guy is on here, too.
Wed, 02/11/2009 - 7:28pm
He actually suggested the story to me.
And thank you about my hair, though my colorist deserves most of the credit. My hair is naturally dingy light brown.
Sun, 07/20/2008 - 6:48pm
I'm not sure if LiveJournal will cooperate, but if it does, some pictures of me are here:http://pics.livejournal.com/amanda_nye/gallery/0000410c
I can't figure out how to adjust the thumbnails so they aren't in such awkward places, but maybe I will at some point.
Sun, 07/20/2008 - 6:49pm
Damn, that looks like fun, and you look good doing it.
Sun, 07/20/2008 - 7:58pm
I am actually horribly out of shape. This was the first job I worked in about 1.5 years. I was chained to a desk for that time working in estimating and sales.
Of course I have one of those stupid metabolisms and I lost 10 pounds in that time. (And I did not change my eating habits either.)
I look less like Popeye now though and my wife likes that.
Misc crap, including some (bad) photos of me, my wife, some of my Khmer in-laws, et cetera can be found at:
I really must get more organised and put more photos up, but bandwidth out here sucks.

The child bride on our deck:
Mon, 07/21/2008 - 7:01pm
Beating me to the punch. It's no fun posting pictures if I don't get to do it.
First one is just plain old me, and the second is me wearing my Slagar hat, out doing some boffer fighting. Don't give me that look. It's fun.
Mon, 07/21/2008 - 7:06pm
You certainly don't look 12 in that first pic! The others? hmmmm....
Tue, 07/22/2008 - 1:46pm
I don't seem to have many pictures of myself being natural at all. (Seriously, I have this weird ability to evade pictures without thinking about it. There's a picture that someone took in my tech class, and all you can see of me is my sandwich)
So instead here's the picture I submitted for my university's ID card. I wish I had realized my glasses were crooked before I submitted it.
Mon, 08/04/2008 - 6:56pm
Old blue hair to which I will return:http://www.new.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=30008057&l=ff2fa&id=1370370050
Okay, I don't look all that much like an octopus, but trust me, I am.
Mon, 08/04/2008 - 9:47pm
so kawaii! ^_^
srsly, you're adorable.
Tue, 08/05/2008 - 9:19pm
Mon, 02/09/2009 - 12:06pm
I love your curly hair! It's actually kind of tentacle-y.
Thu, 02/26/2009 - 11:12am
That's kind of AWESOME. Thank you so much!
I couldn't get rid of the curls if I tried, so I try to embrace them.
Thu, 02/26/2009 - 11:28am
she's nothing like me at all!
Also...super cute pictures. You're adorable.
Thu, 02/26/2009 - 6:05pm
After all, we don't even know what you look like since you haven't posted here. Of course, neither have I, but then I'm not going around picking on people for their V-ness or lack thereof
Thu, 02/26/2009 - 10:29pm
post a description, maybe I will Until then, you're just going to have to wait until WCW to meet me in person!
Mon, 08/04/2008 - 11:17pm
verra cute. I like the green, though maintenance looks like a bitch on that. My husband loves the intense colors and did many when he was younger. I've never had a job that I could go intensely colored in *pout*
Tue, 08/05/2008 - 9:20pm
The roots especially. But it was completely worth it. If not for my job now....
Hey, let's do it during retirement!!
Tue, 08/05/2008 - 9:28am
Oh I love your blue and green hair! I've tried to dye my hair blue three times (and the last time was professionally too!) but it never wants to take.
Tue, 08/05/2008 - 9:16pm
Mine really, really liked green. When it was blue, it would only stay that way for a week or so, and then green again!
My sister's been trying for pink for months now, it's just not doing it. We sympathize.

Tue, 08/05/2008 - 9:33pm
Since I can't tell you just yet (some day I can), I'm curious as to what you think *I* look like.
Tue, 08/05/2008 - 9:51pm
I don't have a mental picture of you.
I am VERY curious as to why there is a delay needed for you to disclose how you look.
I am really good at not thinking about what people look like unless a picture is supplied. (It can be in text of course) With digital media you are only a flavor of how you post. V for instance is rather acidic (Like a good balsamic vinegar)
You seem to taste like honey. (I think you are too nice)
Other posters have tasted dry and bitter (Chew on aspirin some time. This is a flavor I like quite a bit.)
If you come across a dumb you tend to taste like synthetic cherry. (Odd one that. Can't explain it either. Except perhaps that I don't like synthetic cherry. )
Tue, 08/05/2008 - 10:32pm
is primarily because I'm bracing myself for family repercussions. I am unwise, how open I am here, and in other places, too. I've always been open; it's just how I'm made. I'm a fool. I'm okay with that, finally. I'm proud of my work, I'm all right with who I am.
All of my friends and everyone who is close to me but my immediate family knows who I am and what I'm doing, and no one's cut me off. I don't think my family would cut me off, either, but the grief I'm going to get is going to be relentless. It's what kept me from writing, for years, because I knew what was going to come out. When I nearly died two years ago, I realized as I recovered that I had stories inside me--the stories I thought I could never tell were the ones I had to tell. And I could leave this earth without having written any of them down, for fear of my family.
So here I am. I'm struggling with myself, and I'll get clear eventually.
Wed, 08/06/2008 - 8:43am
I suppose that my feelings on this are a product of my upbringing.
Honestly Mei, why do you care what they think if they are repressing you? I understand that family is supposed to be important (I am making a big assumption that it is not your immediate family that is reluctant to allow you to write and post information about yourself on the web) but if they are holding you back it may be time to reassess your relationship with them. I wrote a huge portion of my family out of my life. They weren't good for me so they went away.
Family is what you make of it. I have people who are not related to me by blood or marriage at all that are closer family members then many of my blood relations. My surrogate parents (That are largely responsible for me surviving my childhood) have no claims on me through the traditional accepted methods. However when my wife got pregnant they received an announcement and a congratulatory note on them becoming grand parents. I visit them more often then I do many of my blood relations.
So I wonder why you give these people such power over you? I understand that it can be really hard to think in such a fashion. We are taught from a very early age that honoring blood is the proper way to do things. It's total bull shit. Honor actions and behavior. Listen to those that support you and take you down a notch when you need that too. Those are your true family members. Simply because you share genetic material with some one does not make them family and certainly does not mean that you should have to listen to them. That is not to say that the individuals in question don't have good ideas and good feelings for you. However when I hear that they are responsible for repressing your creativity my immediate reaction is that they are not good for you. It may be best that you do not release how you look but it certainly is not good that you have allowed their opinion to delay the release of your stories. That is not forgivable. Especially as it took a near death experience to finally stop listening to them. Let your detractors go. Stand on your merits as it is clear to me that you have an ability that is worth being shared. Don't worry what they think. If they are angry you should understand that their concern is misplaced and hurtful to you.
Honestly, it is O.K. to be successful with your creativity. If anything I would think that your relations that are concerned are threatened by your success. Don't let them bring you down. Life is to short and they are not worth it.
Wed, 08/27/2008 - 10:15pm
Me too, me too! Naturally too open and always sort of struggling to restrain myself!
Tue, 08/05/2008 - 11:04pm
Now I'm just curious, what do I taste like? Since I'm not evil ;).
Wed, 08/06/2008 - 8:28am
Probably fresh veggies.
You haven’t posted enough to generate a distinct flavor yet.
The easiest ones to define are the extremes. Mei comes across as very sweet in what she posts. (Helped a lot by the storey she is writing)
People like V who are abrasive and sarcastic are almost always associated with acids.
People who are neutral either have no flavor or taste "fresh" for lack of a better term.
People who come across as having difficulties with life have the bitter taste associated with them.
Fri, 08/08/2008 - 8:52pm
0.0 I can has a flavor preez?
Fri, 08/08/2008 - 10:20pm
I suppose this was to be expected.
Fri, 08/08/2008 - 10:50pm
It's taken me a couple days to catch this, but I'm curious how I taste...
(comments here about my varying partners' unwillingness to discuss or perform the requisite research to suitably answer the question...)
Sat, 08/09/2008 - 2:51pm
We haven't had much direct interaction yet.
V was easy because he keep coming up with the sarcasm. (I love that by the way. I don't like being direct if I can help it)
I'll be sure to let you know if a flavor begins to develop.
Sun, 08/10/2008 - 4:03pm
of some sort. I'm not exactly impartial here, but I'd say that my acidity tends to be more directly related to what's been said, while you have a better eye for the "You know, out of context..." stings. I'm not sure how that would map into taste.
Mon, 02/09/2009 - 12:56pm
Wow, I don't think I've ever heard of tasting personality before. That's really interesting.
I tend to have a little smell/color mix-up. I actually just got a whiff of my creamy-yellow chai. Has anyone else here said something along the lines of "it smells grey today" before?
Edit: I'm curious what I taste like - not sure I've been around long enough to know, but here's a (slightly older) photo for those people who are interested. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y244/Laureril/000053.jpg

kinda yeh. i dont have a sense of smell, but my nose feels things.
i DO have a sense of taste but i cant smell a thing. thats great around my line of work.
i do find at times walking outside and thinking how it smells like a hot and dry, like rain in 4 hours, where are there strong chemicals, something is really damp or why does something smell blue?
Tue, 08/05/2008 - 10:15pm
dark hair and a really nice, crinkly smile. And that's it.
I'm with BugKing on the delay curiosity. When is someday?
By the way, BugKing, your way of 'tasting' people is facinating. Sometimes I get sensory ideas of people, but it's pretty rare- I have to know them well. Mei *would* be honey, though, wouldn't she?
Wed, 08/06/2008 - 8:42am
It IS my favorite BPAL note...
Fri, 08/08/2008 - 8:51pm
I imagine you as dark hair, intense eyes, vixen-y with flowing hair and a gorgeous smile. I don't see you as rail thin, nor Rubenesque, but a curvy demi goddess like Amaranth! I get the picture of Sir as a raven-haired version of Westley from the Princess Bride, but with a moustache.
Edit: my linkage skillz suckorz
Wed, 08/06/2008 - 3:05pm
... but I second the dark hair. I consciously try to avoid building a mental picture of you, but the stuff that keeps flashing through my mind is dark, somewhat wavy, shoulder-length hair, a face with laugh lines around green eyes that's been in the sun a lot, and a build varying somewhere between muscular and strong on the one hand, and much softer and rounder than that on the other.
As for the reasons for the delay, I usually go by "friends are the family you choose", but I'm happy with whatever works for you.

Wed, 02/11/2009 - 3:26pm
what do *you* look like?
Sun, 02/15/2009 - 12:30pm
Not worth mentioning.
Wed, 02/11/2009 - 4:13pm
My cats certainly look like that!
Fri, 08/08/2008 - 3:48pm
Which would be typical. I sent the family member in question (it's only one person) an email from this account, not my normal one. Luckily it didn't pick up the sig file, too.
This person matters a great, great deal to me. There is a great deal of love, on both sides, and the repression isn't harsh or even intentional. This family member tends to self-torture on things like this, though--fear of what others will think of me, or worse, my children (and by extension, my family member). And by self-torture, I mean that almost literally. While I selfishly don't want to go through the whole sturm und drang, I also don't want my family member to spend sleepless nights for weeks over this. I'm not sure what this person thinks is going to happen if I write sex scenes, but whatever it is, this person is deathly, deathly afraid of it. (Sir and I have already been through it all when we unwisely came out to her about our sexuality. It took months, but we're all speaking to each other.)
I would not cause this person pain for the world, but I also can't stop being who I am. I wish I could talk to Laurell Hamilton. I just read an Anita Blake paperback and I'm like, geebus, I'm the bastard child of Charles Dickens and Laurell Hamilton. I wonder if she has to worry about this kind of shit, and if she does/did, how she worked through it. I'd pay money to know, seriously.
Fri, 08/08/2008 - 10:23pm
Best of luck to everyone involved.
Sun, 08/10/2008 - 3:22am
... doing the email mix-up thing, don't you.
Much love, luck, and comfort to everyone involved.

Fri, 08/08/2008 - 4:01pm
My hair is quite dark, yes, but liberally salted with silver these days. It's short, in a Louise Brooks bob. My eyes are blue, my cheeks are rosy and I'm told I have an open smile. I am middling height and quite round, which is a polite way of saying fat. I mean, I can fit in an airplane seat, and I don't need seatbelt extenders, but I'm not small. Sir says I'm beautiful, but I've never felt as if I were. I must give off a maternal air because dogs and children usually take to me.
Not too far from how I'd been picturing you Rock on with your bad self.
Mon, 02/09/2009 - 2:52pm
I always pictured you looking like my ex-boyfriends mom. From your description, I'm thinking I was right. I like her... she still sends me Channukah cards...
Wed, 02/11/2009 - 9:35pm
She has a 1000 watt smile, folks. Adorable.
Wed, 08/13/2008 - 7:57am
As someone who has kept much of his life to himself, I sympathize with the notion of having to keep things from people who wouldn't understand them, despite their good intentions. I really do hope it works out well for you.
As for the LKH question, why not just ask her? She has a website. She keeps a blog, going back all the way to 2003, so odds are good you could get some insight from that. Moreover, there are contact links, and she does book signings. Just saying, if you really want to know, the means for finding out aren't out of reach. Again, best wishes, Mei!
And, as always, I'm waiting on the new update.
Wed, 08/13/2008 - 10:37am
Yeah, I found that out after I posted the comment. I think I know probably more about her than I wanted to know now. But then, you could probably say the same about me!
Redsherinik (not verified)
Wed, 08/13/2008 - 9:29pm
however vicarious the knowing is! I get a feeling of deep self-knowledge and self-acceptance from your comments Mei, deeper than LKH seems to me, as a long time reader of her blog. That's probably because she lives her life on the outside of her skin, blogwise, whereas your comments seem a tad more reserved and thoughtful. Similar to writing styles, really, hers are all first person and yours is more third person.
You are a beautiful person, full of love and care for others, and sometimes you need to take care of you. Healthwise, you seem to be doing that, your domestic situation seems to be all it could be (frankly I'm jealous) and mentally, you are letting out these wonderful stories that have been percolating in the back of your subconscious. Your responsibility is to be the best YOU you can be, whether it suits others worldview or not. Go, girl, and don't concern yourself with their response to this part of you - it is only a part, and doesn't invalidate the rest that they already know and love. You don't have a choice who you are, except whether to celebrate it or hide it. You're not hiding any more!
Thu, 08/14/2008 - 5:44pm
but methinks Redsherinik needs to go get verified Stop hiding and the vicarious knowing will at least work in two directions *poke poke*
Thu, 08/14/2008 - 6:06pm
You're probably the first person to call me that, ever. Then again, I share with Anda the character flaw of TMI among friends.
Thank you for your kind words, you are a sweetheart.
Tue, 08/19/2008 - 1:16am
Or rather I look like this:
I'm 5'9", "average" build (read- neither all that thin nor heavy), brown eyes tinted a bit violet, nearsighted as all heck, very dark auburn hair that turns redder as it bleaches out. My hair is almost to my waist when it's down, but it's almost always in a messy bun because it's such a pain to brush out. I want to turn it blue, but alas, it is largely immune to bleach. My ex-husband and I went through two of those Manic Panic bleaching kits trying to get it to lighten up so we could turn it blue, and all they did was make it a little dry.
I can't tan either. Maybe I'm just colorfast. ;)
Tue, 08/19/2008 - 1:29am
Also, I find the idea of you being colorfast amusing.
My most recent picture, complete with child #1 can be found here.
Tue, 08/19/2008 - 3:13am
Thanks! And awwww... she has great hair.
Tue, 08/19/2008 - 10:46am
Your little girl is so sweet!
Tue, 08/19/2008 - 2:51pm
Cute and sweet, both. Except when she's bratty and every bit as stubbornstrong-willed as her dad.
And yes, chaoticevil, we get those comments about her hair a lot, everywhere we go. It's kind of unnervingly predictable. We should probably start taking bets or something.
Sat, 08/23/2008 - 1:33am
ask me how I know this? My hair is both red and naturally curly. People went absolutely batshit crazy over my (and my brother's) hair when we were kids. His hair was just like mine. Never "went to my head" though. For every adult gushing over how gorgeous my hair was there were five kids tripping over each other to make fun of my hair. Hopefully, your little one will not have to deal with that. She is a cutie!
Tue, 08/19/2008 - 8:07am
on a lot of stuff. My hair isn't quite as long as yours, but dang is it ever a pain to brush out. I'm also in the 'average' build, and I can't tan. I burn waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too easily.
I've never tried to dye my hair, or perm it or do anything with it but cut it. I rarely even curl it or blow dry it. My hair is anti-style.
Tue, 08/19/2008 - 5:06pm
While you aren't a perfect Sedra (my mental image of her, at least) when I saw your picture you definitely made me think of her. I think it's in your carriage and that graceful neck, with the dark hair and glasses as a bonus. Definitely some resemblance there Welcome to the forums.
Tue, 08/19/2008 - 4:13am
Bah, I've been meaning to link to a picture of myself, but the "good ones" I'm finding seem to be only in funny costumes (renfaire garb, drag king, Star Trek, WWII Coast Guard, bridesmaid/prom girl-drag...). So here is a picture of me in the pool with my (previous) guinea pig. I ought to take some newer pictures of both myself and my piggie...
Tue, 08/19/2008 - 8:08am
I've always wanted garb. I've also always wanted to go to a renfaire. One of these days...
Tue, 08/19/2008 - 6:39pm
Garb will usually run you around $100 for the good-quality level of the basics (skirt, chemise, bodice, belt for women; pants, loose shirt, belt for men). But I am sure there is a faire near you!! I have been going to faires every summer for the past 6 years, and I always have a lot of fun. Plus, if you're really lucky, you'll have some vendor discover it's your first time at faire, and shout out "FAIRE VIRGIN!" whilst pointing at you. }:) Not that that was done to me.. Also, singing drinking songs at dusk with a bunch of strangers while dressed funny is super fun.
Sat, 08/23/2008 - 1:40am

bwahaha. I love this place, I really do. I can't remember the last time I knew so many queer kinky sci-fi nerds, outside of my previous living situation.
Sun, 08/24/2008 - 11:03pm
I attract them like nobody's business. This is a mere microcosm of my offline life.
Tue, 08/26/2008 - 7:07pm
Somehow I think I would be unsurprised by a round of 6 Degrees of Geeky Queerwads in this forum. Offhand I can think of friends who were married by a Vulcan last year and another friend who was once Gene Roddenberry's personal assistant but is now a publisher, that probably know some people here. And now I've got a warm fuzzy feeling thinking about my RL and forum friends.

I love seeing all the pictures and putting faces with names. I don't have any recent pics of myself. I used to be in front of cameras all the time, but now I'm always the one taking the pictures. I'm 5'3.5", dark blonde hair to about my bra strap, curvy (slightly overweight, but not too much after diligent work), hazel eyes, glasses (very farsighted), pale skin and freckles. For old pics of me from when I was a skinny pretty little thing, go to http://members.tripod.com/~kyanna
I still look pretty much the same, but around 40+ lbs bigger. Eventually I'll take some new pics.

Wow, we could have like our very own Blue-haired Brigade here! I've been keeping my hair blue for about three years now- or at least as consistant as that sort of thing is. My hair has been blue, aqua, or green for a good long while, and very short. When I was younger it was down to my hips, ash brown with coppery sunbleaching. My eyes are dark brown, I usually wear glasses being all near-sighted(along with everyone else it seems) and contacts when I can(evil job with chemicals- contact lenses Very Bad Idea). I am short, slender but busty, fairly graceful when not feeling self-conscious. Another crazy re-enactor who likes to dress up in funny clothes and hit people with swords(or rather poke).
A slightly older pic, bright blue in the bright sun(with glasses on) http://bluewingedcoyote.deviantart.com/art/My-Blue-hair-79126141
Currently I decided to get a little more creative and added in red streaks among the blue http://bluewingedcoyote.deviantart.com/art/Blue-now-with-Red-89482248

I have tried to go blue so many times! My hair is very very dark and does not bleach well at all and then when I can get it light enough the blue wont hold /cry. What brand do you use and is it home or salon done? (Im jealous can you tell? )
Fri, 08/22/2008 - 11:13pm
My natural color is fairly dark and I'm pretty sure I have Cherokee or some kind of Native blood, but it is also very fine. I have never been impressed with Manic Panic, either the dye or the bleach. Try and find a beauty shop/supply store(they are actually everywhere, more than you think and cheap too) and get the professional grade bleach, it will come in a packet of powder and a bottle of developer which you mix in a bowl(that you preferable throw away or never use for anything else). Get the ink-type dye (Paul Mitchell or Raplh Lauren or Colorworks) and get brushes- like those paintbrush paddle-looking things- to apply all this stuff. Wash your hair first with shampoo but only a tiny bit of conditoner, just enough so that you can finger-comb or pick it. Bleach by the instructions, follow the time-guidelines and be careful the prof stuff is strong (and btw- don't wear your favorite shirt or use the good towels for any of this). Wash the bleach thoroughly out of your hair and again barely condition. Then dye by the instructions(a friend is very helpful at this point if you don't want blue ears and neck, or a whole buch of cleverly arrainged mirrors) and heat-set it with a blow-dryer.
Now the most important thing I have found about maintaining the color is how you wash it. First get a sensitive skin, herbal-based or other kind of low chemical shampoo or one that is specially desinged for dyed hair(but not the ones that claim to boost color! They have their own dye in them and will mess up your colors) and always always always lather the soap in your hands first and then apply it to your hair, work back to front, bottom to top. If you noticed in the past, color vanished off the top first didn't it? Most people just casually glop their shampoo on the heads and start scrubbing but you can't do that with color, especially these bright unnatural colors- it strips them right away. And then condition it into submission, really lay it on now, it will help seal in the color.
I've done it myself many times, but I've lately been going to the salon for it since my Beloved gets annoyed by the bathroom looking like a Smurf slaughter-house. And the latest incarnation with the red-streaks- yeah that's totally a professional job, I couldn't do that to someone else nevermind to myself. It depends on which you have more of, time&patience or money. If you can at least go once to a professional and watch close how they do everything and take note of what brands they use. Note that all the products should say they are to be applied to wet hair, you want to go stage to stage without stopping. Don't think you should wait a day between bleaching and coloring, color right away as soon as you've washed the bleach out. The color will bond more deeply with your hair and renourish and protect it after the harsh stripping of the peroxide. And stay out of clorinated swimming pools.
Fri, 08/22/2008 - 11:24pm
WHAT A MESS!!!!! Well worth the money to have someone else do it.
Fri, 08/22/2008 - 11:29pm
that is an awesome descriptor, i shall have to use that... last time i tried it i used the loverly professional powder stuff from the beauty supplier place. i got dark orange hair. went back got more, doubled the strength and tripled the time and managed to get light enough to dye over though not true blond. attemped the blue and got aqua. it was actually a very pretty color but a) it was supposed to be the color from your first pick and b) it faded to a weird greenish blonde within a week. and i took care of the funny colored ears with nail polish remover, a rag and scrubage.
Wed, 02/25/2009 - 11:28am
have any tips for keeping dyed hair dyed? I dyed the tips of my hair blue (which made it look really cool when I wore it up), so I could cut it off if I hated it, but I loved it. I washed my hair every other day, and used colorfast shampoo, but it faded to green in a few weeks. I wish I had pictures of that, but it never even occurred to me to take some. Any ideas on how I could keep it longer?
Thu, 02/26/2009 - 6:06pm
Read 3 posts previous, BlueCoyote gave a very nice exposition on it.
Tue, 02/10/2009 - 5:44am
I LOVE blue hair! They look totally amazing!
Sat, 08/23/2008 - 1:50am
I have arms.
I have nearly shoulder-length red curly hair, pale skin with freckles, dark blue eyes, invisible eye lashes and eyebrows, am middle height, and 100 lbs. heavier than when I got married fifteen years ago. I'm told I have an infectious laugh. I just know it's loud. I have no recent photos of myself. I'm always the one taking the pics. I was told today by a friend that I look great, but I'm pretty sure she was just bein' nice, she's a nice person.

I was just thinking it yesterday when we were out to tea and we were bitching about our almost identical vacations!

This is a fun thread. I feel too new to post and unwilling to associate my identity with this name. Alas. *sigh*

Think nothing of it The forums have an introduction thread if you want to be more specific yet still general about the girl behind the glass.

You're all so cute! I could pinch your cheeks. The facial ones, please. I'm old enough to be all y'all's mama.
Mon, 02/09/2009 - 11:59am
Oh, and I tracked down a more recent photo (this one's from last fall):http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v399/Spiritua_Reborn/sereneimage.jpg
My hair is usually bushier than this, by the way. It just happened to cooperate in this particular shot.
Mon, 02/09/2009 - 12:01pm
Love the poster behind you!!
Tue, 03/17/2009 - 9:45am
And therefore new post! I got my hair cut and dyed red this past week, so I felt like posting new photos.

Parted on the side (how I typically wear it these days):http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v399/Spiritua_Reborn/newhair2.jpg
Taken in better light to show off the red:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v399/Spiritua_Reborn/newhair3.jpg
Not posting a photo because I work in a very public capacity, you understand. But ...
I'm 5'2", curvy, with very very very curly hair that has run the gamut from black to blonde and everything in between; right now it's brown with blonde highlights, and when it's wet it's halfway down my back. When it's dry it curls up several inches, unless I straighten it. Brown eyes, pale pink skin, with lots of freckles.
I both love and hate being short. I love it, because I can wear heels and still be shorter than most people; I hate it, because I can never, ever reach anything. I also have a love/hate relationship with my curves. Love, because I will never, ever be mistaken for a boy; hate, because it is *impossible* to find pants that fit in both the waist and the hips, belts don't work for me, and any shirt that doesn't stretch has to be tailored. I may go shopping for clothes, but I usually come back with shoes.
Mon, 02/09/2009 - 12:13pm
this picture is two years old; main difference is that my hair is pure black now instead of having the fun stripes. and that's my baby Lou!
Tue, 02/24/2009 - 3:25am
are flat gorgeous. I like the fun stripes in your hair! And that is a pretty cat.
Thu, 02/26/2009 - 11:41am
Thank you! I generally look like a slob but my mom wanted to do senior pics so my sister held me down for makeup.
Lou is my baby, he's been my best friend since I was 16, I miss him now that I'm at college (no pets). I kinda wish college was a bit like Hogwarts sometimes.
Thu, 02/26/2009 - 11:49am
but honestly, I know a lot of boys who prefer girls without makeup, and you look like the kind of girl who would be pretty either way.
*Love* the cat...he's beautiful!
Fri, 02/27/2009 - 2:00am
... in the arms of a gorgeous woman. And I feel compelled to agree on the makeup issue, too.
Sun, 03/01/2009 - 7:30pm
I concur on the hair. Those colored highlights are awesome! THey show up so much better on short cuts than long ones like mine, IMO.
Wed, 03/04/2009 - 6:39pm
Thanks guys , you're so sweet

This isn't my favorite picture of me, except for the setting. This was at the first Prop 8 protest a few months back, in Boston. I found this guy and requested that a picture be taken of us:
I took this photo of myself when I was in Kyoto with my parents at a ryokan:
This is from the first SCA meeting I went to while out on the east coast. Just how many Rennies do we have here anyway?
My hair is no longer this color, but it seems Intimate History readers and blue hair just go together:
Mon, 02/09/2009 - 3:42pm
And the Ren one is now my internal image of Sedra...
Mon, 02/09/2009 - 4:13pm
What a compliment! Thank you! ^-^
Mon, 02/09/2009 - 3:51pm
I go to the local Ren fair back home every year, assuming I'm on break when it's open. ^_^ One of life's little pleasures, to mess about in costume all day.
And that is quite a lovely photo.
Mon, 02/09/2009 - 4:25pm
Me too! I make sure to buy my tickets during the holiday season when they're on sale, and go as soon as I can when I get home for summer break. Last year I declined to go in costume, and when I got there I was a little disappointed with myself. Never again!
Thank you! ^-^
Mon, 02/09/2009 - 4:29pm
Unfortunately, mine opens in the early fall, not summer, so I have a very narrow window in which to attend. :,) If my October break is slightly too late, I miss the place entirely. That's only happened once so far, though.
Tue, 02/10/2009 - 8:27am
Actually this about six weeks AFTER the haircut, but meh.http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii151/katiet518/IMG_0933.jpghttp://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii151/katiet518/IMG_0906.jpg
Second one? My son was diving for mommy. lol
It was about chin length right after it was cut, which is the shortest I've had my hair since second grade. :O
And before that! Whatta pain x.x Was a couple inches longer than in this picture.http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii151/katiet518/thedoors.jpg
(ignore my shoes. Ick. Crocs are comfy, but..)
(also ignore my legs. Also ick.)
Tue, 02/10/2009 - 10:07am
What are you on about? You have beautiful legs!
Thu, 02/12/2009 - 9:44pm
really. I LOVE the 2nd picture - it's just absolutely adorable, and one I'd love to claim I had taken. It's just so CUTE!! (and i like the haircut)
Tue, 02/10/2009 - 8:20pm
I've got some pics posted on myspace. Mostly of my girls, but I'm there too.http://www.myspace.com/LaXDaddyMan

AWWWWWWW!!!! Little girls so cute!
Thu, 02/12/2009 - 12:10am
here's a picture of me and a couple of my favorite guys from halloween. a few of my friends and i went as peter pan characters... for a while i was captain hook, but by the end of the night, i just went straight pirate.
i my bodice, and anything pirate-y
(hopefully that link works. it was giving me trouble when i tried to put it on here....)
Thu, 02/12/2009 - 3:26pm
And she could be right for all i know, cuz i have no idea what a ragamuffin is. The only mental image im getting is a Giant MUFFIN fighting godzilla by spewing old clothes torn up to be used for dust-rags all over tokyo. I have a strange (but interesting) mental process. Anyway i'm 6 foot tall 200lb of rippling muscle (the only problem being i weigh 260.....but i carry it well.) I have way to much brown hair on the top of my head which is why i think i cant grow a decent beard or mustache. My nose is rather large without being bulbous. My eyes are my most striking feature i think. They are greyish blue once described as "The color of the ocean sky on a cold december day". Mei has a picture of me somewhere on the site wearing the gray ski cap that gave me my nickname. You can usualy find me wearing jeans and a t-shirt (im not a formal dresser, or any other piece of furniture to tell the truth.) and with that i think i've painted a pretty good picture of what i look like.
Thu, 02/12/2009 - 4:49pm
is a cutie. I'd totally hit on him if I weren't married.
Just so ya'll know.
Thu, 02/12/2009 - 8:49pm
Your not so hard on the eyes yourself. I would very likely turn beet red and stammer like a morron. If i'm not the one doing the hitting on i fall apart a little when girls flirt with me. I'm either supremely confedent and charmingly witty, or a giggling schoolgirl when it comes to the fairer sex, there is no middle ground. Yes this can be vexing. Oh and i scoured the old blog posts for that picture!
they say a picture is worth a thousand words. so i wont type a thousand words here.
Thu, 02/12/2009 - 8:56pm
Adorable. Completely and utterly adorable. I'd flirt very shyly with you if I saw you in person, assuming I got up the nerve to say anything at all...
Thu, 02/12/2009 - 9:33pm
agreed (skitters from Slagar)
Thu, 02/12/2009 - 9:45pm
totally cutie pie. I have to agree w Mei...almost makes me want to pinch your cheeks (the top ones, I promise).
And yeah, I could see ragamuffin applying. Especially w/ the gray hat.
Thu, 02/12/2009 - 5:20pm
The hair is slightly different now, but not much. Which is to say purple.
Thu, 02/12/2009 - 5:26pm
1) I LOVE your avatar.
2) what a cute hairstyle! And I bet you look good with purple hair. -nodnod-
Sat, 02/14/2009 - 3:26pm
How cute are you?? Love the hair!
Thu, 02/12/2009 - 9:26pm
This is one of my favorite pictures of me - which is saying a lot, considering I hate having my photo taken:
I'm a bit heavier now, and my hair is a tad longer, but for the most part that's me.
Thu, 02/26/2009 - 11:34am
I love your dress and the cabinets in the background altogether!
Thu, 02/12/2009 - 10:11pm
This is me dressed as a harlequinhttp://shadowducky.deviantart.com/art/Riddle-Me-This-54304662
And here's one of me dressed up for the opera in Amsterdam this Christmas It's a little blurry because my camera sucks. It took a good hour to straighten my hair >/ stupid curls.http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/4904/ishan009fm8.jpg
I just whacked my hair off, though, so it's about as long as my chin.
Thu, 02/12/2009 - 10:31pm
how cute you all are. I know I've said it, but I'll say it again. I'm thinking of dyeing my hair, probably burgundy.
Fri, 02/13/2009 - 12:18pm
It's a very nice colour and you are so lucky to have it naturally (I presume). I wish mine would go that way. Plus, it really sets off your vivid eyes.
Fri, 02/13/2009 - 12:21pm
I have my stylist put all that gray in. Thank you.
Mon, 02/23/2009 - 11:02am
Not sure what the site rules are about necro'd threads or whatnot, but hopefully I'm not breaking any. Anyways, I'm a skinny runner boy with short brown hair (it turns a dirty blond in the summer), about 6' 2", and usually dressed with a very bad fashion sense. For those who are more visually inclined, though, I do have pictures:
A photo snapped during Band Camp. I look like I want to burn my music:http://photos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-sf2p/v309/67/40/583670734/n583670...

I'm also Team Contortionist for my XC team, and their favorite trick is me touching my spine through my stomach. Pic:http://photos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-sf2p/v257/176/102/901780075/n9017...

I also dyed my hair a while back for shits and giggles. My parents weren't too happy...anyway, pic:http://photos-a.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-sf2p/v198/238/12/781181084/n78118...
And you're right Mei, dying my own hair was a GIGANTIC mess >_<. anyways="" yeah="" that="" me.="">
Mon, 02/23/2009 - 11:39am
well, a year ago when my hair was red and I had a school project, I looked like this: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2404/2419863965_38e2f2180b.jpg
Mind you, the curls are synth hair, but the rest is mine

I also need lots of coffee!
hihi, thanks a bunch
Mon, 02/23/2009 - 6:59pm
was this one taken? That is really cool, and it looks so professional! Love the outfit.
Tue, 02/24/2009 - 1:32am
It was taken in the school studio. really small and smelly room with a white sheet and a black sheet for pictures like this. I miss it so much!
Wed, 02/25/2009 - 11:24am
We had one of those back in high school, and I loved it. I was always behind the camera instead of in front of it, though. I loved the darkroom we had and all the cool effects I could get playing with the light when I was printing and the developer and stop bath. Those were the days.
Tue, 02/24/2009 - 1:42am
You have major style!
Mon, 02/23/2009 - 12:55pm
...of putting my real picture up on Facebook. If I can convince Sir it's a good idea and convince my friend Ima to take a good picture of me (a daunting task), we'll see. (psst--friend/fan me now so you don't miss out cuz it won't be anywhere else! look in the sidebar on the far right!)
Mon, 02/23/2009 - 2:57pm
I always love seeing pictures of people...this is one of my favorite threads. I especially like seeing pictures of my favorite authors, because so often they look different than I expect them to, and it's interesting to meet people in that order: to hear first what they have to say, and to see second what they look like.
Mon, 02/23/2009 - 4:31pm
Photo of the four of us
I'm on the far right in black. The dress actually belongs to the roommate on the far left though... and the dress she's wearing is mine I love dress swapping! The picture's from the Phi Kappa Psi formal last year; all of us but the shortest roommate were dating Phi Psis at the time, so we found her a date and all went together. It was all kinds of fun.
Mon, 02/23/2009 - 5:24pm
That's your cheongsam? I always wanted to be able to wear one.
Mon, 02/23/2009 - 5:46pm
Yep, the cheongsam is mine. Though it looks much better on her, her being actually Asian and all (Well, half. Still way more than me.)
Mon, 02/23/2009 - 6:57pm
really freaking cool. Where did you get it?
Tue, 02/24/2009 - 2:34am
My school has "bonding activities" for freshman in the week before your freshman year starts; I chose to do a community service one, and got put in Asian American Issues. I was the only non-Asian in the group We went all over the Bay Area doing community service but we did get some time for shopping. We got the cheongsam in San Francisco; one of the girls on my trip was Chinese and haggled the price down in Mandarin. It was great. She even got me free altering. Seriously, if you ever go shopping in Chinatown, any Chinatown (I've got a cute dress from Boston's Chinatown too): bring someone who speaks Chinese, and haggle. SO much cheaper.

Post a warning when you do stuff like that! The amount of Cute Girl in that picture alone approaches truly dangerous levels.
Tue, 02/24/2009 - 2:35am
Tue, 02/24/2009 - 1:11am
Wow, you are just stunning. What colour are your eyes? I love your dark hair and beautiful skin.
Tue, 02/24/2009 - 2:43am
Aw, thanks Eye color.
Also, because I found it while on my search for a picture with my eyes (which, by the way, took FOREVER because my eyes are so determined to become red in photographs), and it amused me: me at Genderfuk. Genderfuk is the annual GLBTQ drag dance; that year the theme was Dungeons and Dragqueens. I went Dungeons. Charlie, the one standing next to me, was a dragqueen (isn't he awesome? I love him to death). And no, the hair streak isn't real, it's clipin. But a convincing clipin!
Another amusing image I found: last year's Halloween! I know people here will appreciate it. Or maybe we're not that kind of nerdy?
Tue, 02/24/2009 - 4:39am
... or at least I am. If being that kind of nerdy is defined as being appreciative of that picture, I can't see how anyone could NOT be that kind of nerdy.
OK, I'll stop now before I start sounding completely creepy. Or is it too late for that already? :?
Thu, 02/26/2009 - 1:51am
Hehe nah. I got many far creepier comments on Halloween. At least you just meant yours as a compliment, not "Oooh, wonder if the hot nerdy girl's drunk enough to sleep with me?"
Wed, 02/25/2009 - 11:47am
Gah, my favourite eye/hair/skin combo. I wish I were more gay so I could properly crush on you.
You look so elegant and sexy in that genderfuk photo, and the halloween costume is hilariously fun!
Thu, 02/26/2009 - 1:57am
Thanks hon! Not-gay-enough sentiment appreciated I do love that corset. One of my goals for a future Halloween is to resurrect the costume, but better. Preferably to be closer to this picture though with the addition of sunglasses. My friend Becca and I got into a whole debate about whose costume was better. We finally settled that her boots were better and she had the side side holsters right, which I didn't; on the other hand, she's Native Alaskan with brown skin, black hair and no chest. So I won the general resemblance part of the discussion
Thu, 02/26/2009 - 4:36am
And I LOVE corsets. And halloween. It's taken me years to perfect my costume (which has been a vampire for over a decade now).
Thu, 02/26/2009 - 5:58pm
My grandfather always does vampire, but he just puts on a cape and teeth I love vampire costumes, the dresses always seem to be gothic-lovely.
Wed, 02/25/2009 - 5:39pm
if the Geek thread hasn't made that clear. And you certainly make that costume look great
Thu, 02/26/2009 - 1:26am
Heh, well, I didn't see too many mentions of video games on the Geek Soundoff thread... though I guess I never really played Tomb Raider. My mom thought it was too violent (read, she didn't want me to turn into my dad cause one room with explodey-people-dying sounds emerging was quite enough for her) and would only let me play the training mode at the mansion when I borrowed it from Dad. Training mode was fun though. I got very good at locking the butler in the freezer so he'd quit bugging me. And thanks <3
Thu, 02/26/2009 - 2:11am
... would have been to put both computers in the same room, then. No?
Add some networking and you'll have plenty of opportunity for some father-daughter bonding moments...
Thu, 02/26/2009 - 2:52am
The way it wound up, I lean towards computer games (mostly non-violent like Roller Coaster Tycoon, Zoo Tycoon, the Sims, etc) with the occasional departure into games like Age of Empires or Civilization. My dad is mostly Xbox 360. So we don't overlap much Though watching him play Guitar Hero was priceless. Our "father daughter video game bonding" is mostly when he's playing. He gets the game, I read the guidebook- he's dyslexic and doesn't like to read them himself- and then sit and watch him play until he gets attacked. Then we have the standard "Help! How do I kill this thing?" "Shoot the stomach, it doesn't have armor on the stomach!" kind of conversation.
Though nowadays I just get text messages along the lines of "Can you ask your friends in the nerd frat how to kill the tentacle boss in Dead Space?"
Thu, 02/26/2009 - 6:11pm
I play games, but I don't consider myself a "gamer" with the Playstation and the headset fragging people left and right--if I tried to call myself one I'd probably get called out >.> But most anyone who spends this much time on the net runs into some kind of games
Thu, 02/26/2009 - 9:16pm
I'm pretty non-gamer, really. Tabletop RPG or miniatures wargaming, sure, but notsomuch for videogames more complicated than free internet thingies.
Tue, 02/24/2009 - 7:21pm
I'm getting to that alarming point in life (late 20s) where I begin to wonder when I cross from "compliment from a peer" into "that creepy older guy eyeing up the youngsters". Is there some sort of official cutoff, or anything? There's more'n once I've thought of posting compliments (from my POV), but then thought again about the best way to phrase them
Tue, 02/24/2009 - 7:26pm
I'm mid-20s, and I'm feeling some of that, too. Especially for the near-18 crowd. I was a freshman in college around the turn of the century, and that's...a while ago now. Freshmen were born in the '90's!
Tue, 02/24/2009 - 7:34pm
In 20 or 30 years I'll just be a dirty old man, but for a while here I'm going to be much more conflicted about it
Tue, 02/24/2009 - 7:48pm
I'm a dirty old man trapped in this young hot body.
Tue, 02/24/2009 - 8:30pm
That explains so much. xD
Tue, 02/24/2009 - 8:34pm
But yeah, you might still want to get tested... }:)
Proximity-contagion of the dirty and all.
Sun, 03/01/2009 - 10:17pm
I just had the realization the other day when I was walking that the freshmen on campus were born in 1990 and I almost tripped horribly in front of the library.
Sun, 03/01/2009 - 10:25pm
about YOU guys. I graduated from high school in 1979.
Sun, 03/01/2009 - 10:40pm
I was born very soon thereafter
srsly. I bet you're younger than the parents of most of your readers, at least
Mon, 03/02/2009 - 8:19am
Actually, she's the same age as my mom ;-D
Tue, 03/03/2009 - 7:19am
Wed, 03/04/2009 - 2:59pm
*Takes evasive action*
Sun, 03/01/2009 - 10:56pm
You are indeed younger than my parents by quite a margin.
Sun, 03/01/2009 - 11:04pm
mine as well.
Mon, 03/02/2009 - 8:28am
But the year that you graduated, my brother was born about six months later.
Mon, 03/02/2009 - 9:58am
than my parents, and my parents have always been among the youngest of all my friends parents. It probably helps that your kids are younger than we are.
Tue, 02/24/2009 - 8:07pm
As someone who has been an 18 year old girl, I can tell you that late 20s can seem a little... old... to a recent high school grad. Six years later, it's only weird if you're older than my parents.
Tue, 02/24/2009 - 8:14pm
and that's kind of the conclusion I've been coming to. HS--clearly out. Early college--probably out. After that? Well, 1) that's only a few years difference still and 2) Even down the road--yeah, like you said
Tue, 02/24/2009 - 8:54pm
When Sir and I met, he was 21 and I was 31. Everyone was aghast. Now, I'm 47 and he's 37; no one even notices. But then, I'm immature and he's an old fogey. We meet somewhere in the middle.
Tue, 02/24/2009 - 11:36pm
My aunt and uncle were the same way My family sort of hated my aunt before they'd met her, cause she looked like a TERRIBLE girlfriend on paper; she'd been married at 15, had two kids, gotten divorced and was ten years older than he was. Then we met her, and it is completely impossible not to love her. And now we don't even remember most of the time (except for when we see my cousin, who's 12, with his half nephews, who are 15 and 11 :D) Now whenever I meet a couple where the woman's older than the man, I'm like "EEEE AUNT VICKY" and get all gleeful.
Wed, 02/25/2009 - 9:35pm
The part about being older than my parents. One of my regular customers is 60, and he has never been anything but complementary and flirtatious. (Tonight he told me I was a "catch.") We were talking about books, including those with sexually explicit content. I told him to check out this story. Really, really weird conversation to have with someone nearly 3 times my age, but somehow, not creepy at all.
Wed, 02/25/2009 - 12:11am
Hehe. To you (and probably Gudy as well):
I agree with basically what's been said already. To high school students, anyone out of college is Scary (and some who are in college). To freshman somewhat as well. As a sophomore, I find it bothers me less; it really depends on the person. There's one guy Greg who's 24 who creeps the hell out of me and has been dubbed Sketchy Greg by my friend group; then there's Dan who's 25 whom I happily flirt with. And there was an alumni event recently where one guy Andrew who complimented me was 8 years older but who weirded me out quite a lot (he later asked me out. Er, no. Kthnx.) but there was another guy Don who was 12 years older and complimented me and that was totally fine.
I think it's about how well they know you, really, and how much of the vibe is "I want you" and how much is "Oh, pretty". I was comfortable around Dan for a lot of reasons; we've been friends a while, I'm friends with everyone in his fraternity (who would beat him up if he pissed me up), we communicate well. Greg was just this random guy in my dance class who seemed to feel it was acceptable to remove the "personal space" aspect of dance frames, massage my shoulder blades and randomly message on Facebook (which it was not). That made Greg far creepier than Dan even though Dan was older and has a far more checkered history with girls. Andrew was worse than Don because Don is a sweetheart who wasn't interested in me in any way that would creep me out; he just told me that my dress looked pretty and proceeded to spend the next hour or so discussing Gaiman with me.
Of course, if you're complimenting them to hit on them rather than just as a compliment, you get a whole different rant I feel like you're probably around the boards enough that a compliment would just be taken as such. Though in my case, the avatar helps How could you be hitting on me when clearly all you want to do is defend yourself against orphanages?
Wed, 02/25/2009 - 11:20am
about that half your age plus seven rule sometimes (as in, (your age)/2 + 7 = your SO's minimum age), but I've never been in a relationship that didn't break it. The one I'm in right now, I'll probably be old enough in a year or so to fall within the appropriate range, but I think who you can date (or check out or whatever) has more to do with place in life than physical age. I started college a few months after I turned sixteen, so I've been dating college boys for a long time, and some of them were scandalously old. (my age, their age; 14, 16; 16, 23; 17,25...still with that last one, but now it's 21,29). I don't think I could have dated boys my own age, though, because we had nothing in common. They were still dealing with the ridiculous social scene in high school and asking for hall passes to use the bathroom, and I was trying to get along with roommates and make sure I had enough money to feed myself and still buy books. I really think that you can check out anyone, and if they're on this site, they're probably at least living on their own or dealing with similar issues as you are. You have to be 18 to be here, and you're legally clear to date, and I think that once you are 18, your place in life usually makes you an adult anyway. (That's for you 20 or 30-somethings that feel skeevy. If you're 70 and you're checking out 18 year olds, I got nothing for ya.)
In the end, I largely agree with Marri. I've met some kids who were three years younger than me that totally creeped me out, and I've met some 45 year olds that told me I looked beautiful and were just really really sweet about it.
Wed, 02/25/2009 - 11:49am
Very good points, and older men FTW! *owes you pm reply*
Wed, 02/25/2009 - 11:48am
You're nowhere near that, though I do know exactly of what you speak. At nearly 28, feel a bit pervy eyeing the 16-19 year old boys (for some reason, the 'teen' thing makes a difference). But some of them are so damn hot!
Wed, 02/25/2009 - 1:21pm
Fortunately, I tend to prefer older men (I go nuts for salt-and-pepper hair), and so far, I've only been with older women. The possibility of younger women still exists though. I'm 21 now, and I tend to draw the line at "college", but it's not hard since many younger women (pre-college) aren't interested in women yet anyway, even if they will be someday.
Tue, 02/24/2009 - 1:33am
to much cute!
Tue, 02/24/2009 - 3:09pm
teehee, I colored my hair today
and just because the color turned out awesome I must show the world! http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3504/3306814261_e74638846b.jpg
=3 Sorry if I spam the thread!
Tue, 02/24/2009 - 11:32pm
Eee, cute! I like the green. It's funky.
Wed, 02/25/2009 - 11:30am
it makes your eyes all green and I love how you did your eye shadow! TOO darn cute.
Wed, 02/25/2009 - 12:50pm
It was actually suppose to be blue, but when I bleached it the yellow tone wouldn't go away so it is green with a pretty funky blue shade when I hairspray it up I believe I will go trough my little box of green eyeshadow while this lasts.
Wed, 02/25/2009 - 1:36pm
The color really brings out your eyes. Also, I have to add, I love the avatar.
Thu, 02/26/2009 - 12:30pm
ditto on the avatar and hair color. Green is the best! I always loved my blue, but for some reason, green and purple always looked best on me.
By the way, my hair is totally different from when I posted last summer. (yoicks!) Almost shoulder length deep faded red. Lemme see if I have any current pictures...
Thu, 02/26/2009 - 12:37pm
for some reason the hair really brings out your eyes. I dyed my hair blue because I have blue eyes, and it brought them out (and also because I'd wanted to dye my hair blue since I was five or something), but for some reason, the red makes yours stand out. Very cool.
Thu, 02/26/2009 - 12:52pm
I'm not sure why this is, but of all the colors I've tried, both blue and red do that. I'm glad you like!
Thu, 02/26/2009 - 12:58pm
maybe I'll have to give red a shot. I'm not sure how it would look. I always think that if I ever get a really short haircut, I'll spike it and dye the tips red, but everyone tells me that would look ridiculous. Then again, that's what they said about the blue and then everyone loved it, so who knows, really.
Thu, 02/26/2009 - 2:11pm
Red looks good in any hair color, imo. In dark hair, it blends in enough to be almost a cool discovery. In lighter hair, it really pops out and gives that 'wow' vibe. And in red hair, more red just makes it better.
Thu, 02/26/2009 - 2:22pm
I think it looks best in really dark hair, in general, but maybe if I did it I would dye all my hair dark brown and add the red? I haven't seen it very much in light hair, so I guess I don't really know.
Thu, 02/26/2009 - 10:30pm
I recently did my littlest sister's hair for the first time. She's now 13 and our parents said she could. She has naturally medium brown hair, chin length, and I did red streaks in it. It came out amazing. I've had red streaks in my naturally dark brown hair and they've always looked great, too. I wouldn't dye all your hair dark brown right off the bat, I'd do some just because it would be tricky to go from the new brown back down to the red. Maybe do your red streaks first, see how it looks finished with your natural hair color, and if you don't like it then put some foil over them and do the rest dark if you want.
Thu, 02/26/2009 - 10:32pm
Thanks! The foil thing isn't a bad idea. I'm not sure I want to commit to something quite as intense as dying all my hair, just because I'm not sure I want to have to keep up with it, and because I like to be able to cut the dye out when I'm sick of it (hence, the tips), but I'll think about it. Thank you for the help
Wed, 03/11/2009 - 3:26pm
I do all my friends' hair, I guess advice just slips out now. So I'm glad you appreciate it.
Thu, 02/26/2009 - 10:39pm
I've been told I look like this.
But I think it's just that I had that haircut.
Sun, 03/15/2009 - 4:03pm
I'm quite sure they were calling you a MILF. But I also see what you mean about the haircut
Wed, 03/11/2009 - 2:29pm

Thu, 03/12/2009 - 10:23am
I heard about this, i can see where they are coming from, but come on, he is a classic, i grew up with him and i didnt over indulge on cookies, my parents made sure of that. What is this world coming to? Cant even spank a child anymore, when i was younger i would get my arse beat if i got out of line. No wonder kids are like they are nowadays
Thu, 03/12/2009 - 9:04pm
You know, I would say that those quotes from various networks had to be a joke, but I've long since lost my faith in humanity. Come on people, editing shows based on health of food (or pet names for people)? I'm starting to wonder if I'll get to see society dissolve in a sea of idiocy in my lifetime, and here I always thought the downfall of mankind would occur by my hands...
Hell, parents can't even spank their kids anymore. I know I got set on the straight and narrow a few times by my father, and while he never actually used it, the threat of his big leather belt was enough to make me veto the REALLY stupid ideas before I did them
Ah well, these are just the tip of the iceberg for why I think society is circling the drain. Maybe the cockroaches will do a better job of it than we did
Fri, 03/13/2009 - 5:09pm

Got any others?

Does that one work?
Sat, 03/14/2009 - 9:45pm
Lookin' good and goofy.
Sun, 03/15/2009 - 1:11am
I typically believe that I don't do standard posing pictures easily, but looking good while being silly is strangely simple.
Mon, 03/16/2009 - 12:05am
It's kind of old (like four years? maybe five), but I've always sort of liked this one:http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=30006501&op=2&o=global&view=global...
Also a few years old. Add another one to the blue hair brigade!http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=33900178&v=photos&viewas=33900178...
I need to find some more recent pics of myself that I don't hate...
Tue, 03/17/2009 - 10:01am
but they don't work. Check out the advice given to applejax, above, about posing facebook pics.

But my friends have interesting observations sometimes. (honestly, though, a little girl once mistook me for the former)
Tue, 03/17/2009 - 10:11am
is freaking hilarious. Now I want to meet you, lol.
Tue, 03/17/2009 - 10:36am
That gave me the giggles. I am now imagining Kramer running from monsters.
BTW, new haircolor again! No pics, though, since I'm lazy and you all have seen quite enough of me, anyway.
Tue, 03/17/2009 - 10:52am
*extra* have to come to WCW so we can see the new color!
