Joss Whedon's "Dr. Horrible" Internet Series

All details here: http://www.drhorrible.com/plan.html

*psst* Pass it on! */psst*

So you like Buffy the Vampire Slayer? Angel? FIREFLY? If you're a big fan you already know the name. If you're more casual--well, this is the guy who made those series. And he's putting out a free short that he helped create during the big writer's strike. Free for less than a week, but later available for a small fee. Free PR is good PR.

I have no idea how this escaped my awesome radar! Thank you so much!

B2's picture

Me too! I knew nothing about this! Whee!

For some reason, Buffy and Angel never captured my attention, but Firefly hooked me on Whedon for life. That man is twisty, in all the good ways.

TheBoy's picture

Angel thanks everybody for pointing this out to us...
(b) "twisty, in all the good ways..."

(2) Dating a dancer/gymnast/figure skater/etc... is a great thing...

"What's with all the screaming?"

That's the song that, when I realized it was the same guy that did the bluegrass "Baby Got Back," made me fall in love with Jonathan Coulton.

Yeti's picture

Devotee

but since you mentioned that song in particular, I would recommend the band Hayseed Dixie if you haven't heard them yet. They've done a number of bluegrassy covers of hair rock songs that are quite entertaining.

... they just don't know it yet. Wink

Oh, did I really make that noise? How embarrassing. I never really got into Buffy or Angel (don't think I fit the demographic) but I recently discovered Firefly and have become an anti-Fox terrorist. How on earth COULD they have been so dumb? Soo much character development we never got to see. Did Inara ever come back? Did River ever straighten out (but not too much)? Did Simon keep his feet out of his mouth long enough to hook up with Kaylee? The movie was fantastic, the greatest twist in the plot ever - take your lithium kiddies to be nice little boys and girls!

I have been looking for more Josh Whedon since and haven't seen this on the radar - a good effort to keep it quiet until they were ready. MeiLin, I'm with you - Nathan Fillon didn't think he could do tall, dark and conflicted, but wow, I'm glad he did. More please!!!!

I think the fans killed it. I've been trying to get in to watch, and it's dead.

*pout*

MeiLin's picture

That's why I just went ahead and bought the thing.

I suspected, so I paid for the series on itunes. My hard drive just doesn't have room to download it. I really need to get my desktop set up. The laptop is not made to handle all the stuff I've been doing on it this past year.

I now have a huge crush on Dr. Horrible. I think my boyfriend does too. of course, Neal Patrick Harris is gay, so I guess my boyfriend would have more luck with him anyway. <.> we're waiting for the DVD. there'll be singing commentary. (not that you all havent heard about taht already, I just need somewhere to gush about it~)
also, my brain has beed deadlocked with songs from this for the last 4 days. aaaah.

MeiLin's picture

I will probably be buying the DVD as well. I want to throw wads of money at Joss to convince him to do more extra-studio stuff like this. I've had the songs stuck in my head, too. In fact, No2 Daughter has been walking around singing them, which is hilarious because she only saw the episodes a couple of times. I'll be in the kitchen and I'll hear from the other room "A maaaan's gotta do what a man's gotta dooo!" or "Here's the story of a girl who grew up sad and lonely..." or her favorite, "It's a brand new day, the sun is high, all the angels sing that you're gonna die! Go ahead and laugh, I'm a funny guuuuy!"

Kunama's picture

Devotee

Damn it, not again! I thought that thing about "all the good looking guys are either taken or gay" was just a funny saying, IT'S NOT MEANT TO BE TRUE!! *sulks*

V's picture

Yup, I've had the soundtrack jammed on 'repeat' in my brain for a long time too. Particularly at work, which is really not the sort of place I can sing out loud >.

My favorites are definitely "On the Rise" and "Brand New Day" from the start and end of Act II

"Listen close to everybody's heart, and hear that breaking sound. Hopes and dreams are shattering apart, and crashing to the ground." but the harmony with Penny is just gorgeous. And I snagged a sig from "Brand New Day" earlier

Those are my two favourites as well. I could sing all of Ep 2. Well, I wish I could, at any rate.

I paid for them on iTunes, too. Thank goodness I just got some new memory! It's fantastic- I've never seen any of those shows, not even Firefly, and I didn't know who NPH was either, but I heard about it and watched the trailer and it seemed worth it. Love the music, love all of it!

MeiLin's picture

Now go forth and get Firefly and Serenity and Buffy and Angel and the comix and be sure to watch Dollhouse and and and...

I am totally hoping for a cabaret version of "Dr Horrible" at a con or something. I call Groupie #2 (the one with all the collectibles like the dry cleaning bill).

Speaking of Cabaret, NPH was in a production of Cabaret in 2002 or 2003. He was the Emcee. One of the girls from Step-By-Step was the female lead, and Tom Bosley played the old man who sings about pineapples with the love of his life. It was epic! I wish they had released it on DVD...

Yesterday I learned that kawaiikune and her bf had not yet seen this marvelous piece of cinema. Scrapper, applejax and I immediately took it upon ourselves to rectify the situation. We watched all 3 acts with applejax and I singing along to most of the lyrics.

Kawaiikune has been chastised for this unconscionable oversight. She now "gets" a bunch of the avatars and signatures around here that were formerly meaningless.

I suggest that everyone else here take this as a warning if they plan to show up to any MLM meetups now or in the future }:)

Then you can fill in for me, with the singing. I knew some of the songs, but didn't want to subject you all to my singing Smile Course there was probably enough alcohol involved that you might not have noticed! Thanks for having us over again, it was a lot of fun!!

V's picture

Embodiment

applejax is an awesome singer, but I have no illusions as to my actual abilities. When you get enough people, tho, the enthusiasm overwhelms the skill and it's all good.

Just never been much of a singer, unless it's driving in the car by myself Blum 3 But with enough booze, anything is possible Blum 3

So your world’s benign
So you think justice has a voice
And we all have a choice
Well now your world is mine

Now the nightmare’s real
Now Dr. Horrible is here
To make you quake with fear
To make the whole world kneel

My turn in the queue finally came up and I got it from the library earlier this week...
