Now it can be told: The Drifting Isle Chronicles

I've mentioned a project I'm working on with a bunch of other fantasy writers. Now I can talk about it more. We have a name for our series: The Drifting Isle Chronicles. The blog Shared Story Worlds will be writing about our progress throughout the coming year as we work on this project together. Up first is this interview with Joseph Robert Lewis, who organized the collaboration. The other writers working with us are Coral Moore, Katherine Tomlinson and Charlotte E. English.

As Joseph says in the interview, it's amazing how the five of us each gravitated to a particular section of the world we've created and said, "Right, I'll sort that bit out." The world we've created is part steampunk, part magic, and has some really interesting little quirks in it. We're still working out the magical rules, but we've come a very long way in a very short time.

We'll be releasing five novels--one by each writer--by the end of the year. Each will be stand-alone but interlinked with the others; you can read just the one, but reading all five will enrich the experience of each individual book. We will each retain ownership of our books, and if we want to write more in that universe, there won't be anything stopping us.

Mine is tentatively titled "The Machine God." It will, as my books often do, explore choice, agency, religion, mythology and relationships. But this time, there won't be any sex! I don't think there will even be kissing! I NO RITE?! As the project progresses, I'll be sure to let you know how it's going.

Embodiment

... interesting and certainly worth keeping an eye on.

But to be bluntly honest, I worry a bit about the "3 to 6 months" thing and how sustainable/manageable such a pace would be for you, MeiLin.

Fastest I've ever put a plot together. This isn't going to be one of my doorstop novels; I'm expecting this to weigh in closer to 60-80k and my History books are usually at least twice that.

I'm really looking forward to it!
