Today from the Box of Squee: Intrigue

Today, the Fickle Finger of Squee (assisted by No1 Daughter) chose Intrigue:

A sultry, exotic scent that inspires devious plotting and clandestine affairs. It is a scent painted in artifice, veiled in deceit, and slithering with whispered secrets. Black palm, with cocoa, fig and shadowy wooded notes.

In the imp the "shadowy wooded notes" are at the fore, smelling like a very dry, dusty patchouli/sandalwood to me. Very dusty. Wet, it's still dusty but not as dry, and I smell more of the cocoa and fig. I'm honestly not sure what black palm smells of, but this is definitely shadowy. It's a light shadow, though, like a shadow of a potted palm in a bright, white courtyard. I see someone slipping through a loggia to an assignation.

On drydown it has more of that dry courtyard smell to it--a shadow in bright sunlight. It smells like No 2 wood pencils, too--that lead and wood smell of a sharpened pencil. Aak! grade school flashback!

No1 Daughter likes it, I'm not so sure--I don't dislike it, but it doesn't have much staying power. I gave it to her.

Later: Sir has decided he likes it, so if I get another frimp ("free imp"--the lab is always generous with the frimpage as are swappers and sellers at I'll keep it for myself.

"Fickle Finger of Squee," - I love it!

Many of my friends online adore BPAL, but I've never really gotten into it. I have one signature scent that I wear, if I wear any scent at all. Perhaps I should give it a try. Smile

BPAL roolz. I've always loved perfume, but could never afford to really indulge. But BPAL is really affordable. It's always perfume OIL which is the strongest perfume comes in. (Strongest to weakest: Perfume oil, perfume or parfum, eau de parfum, eau de toilette.) Even the imps are oil, not eau de parfum. I can only afford eau de toilette of something like Annick Goutal's Eau de Charlotte, which is my signature scent and what I was wearing when I met Sir (black currants, chocolate, bread, sweet flowers--it's an edible floral). I always wear it on our anniversaries. And even in eau de toilette strength it's expensive.

Tell me what your favorite notes are, and I'll tell you what BPAL you should try. Imp packs of six are under $20, and you can pick what six you get. And an imp lasts a surprisingly long time.

That's a sensitive and sensual sniffer you have, there. I'm much simpler in that reactions generally fall under "Hmm, smells nice", "Ick, not that one", or "VANILLA! *pounces and ravishes*"

Most High'd like BPAL. There are some spectacular vanillas:

Eat Me, which smells like vanilla cake--no, you naughty thing, it's "eat me" like Alice in Wonderland!--Blood Kiss, Dragon's Milk, Velvet (which also smells of cocoa), Belle Epoque, O (as in "Story of"), Golden Priapus...tons of vanillas.

And guys? If you had any idea how sexy a good-smelling guy is, you'd be all over it. Lots of excellent guy BPALs, my own faves being Calico Jack, DeSade, Dee, Dorian, Frederick, Highwayman (swoon), Whitechapel (which I wear) and, I kid you not, Men Ringing Bell with Penises.
