Can I still post about the meetup here...

... when it's already happened? Biggrin

Anyway, we (i.e. me, my wife and our kids) met up with Manoki and some of her people today and spent a few entirely enjoyable hours together at the local zoo. Which AFAIK makes this, small and linguistically hampered though it may have been, the first Historian meeting on European soil.

I hope Manoki gets around to posting a picture or two, and I also hope we can repeat this sometime soon.

I like seeing groups of people from different ares who share interests able to meet up in places! Smile I hope there's pics too, so I can see y'all!

It was wonderful to meet Gudy and company! We had a fabulous time at the zoo (raise your hand if you had ANY idea that Gudy's first language is not English). I certainly did not. In fact, before we met, I asked him whether he was American or British, assuming that he had married a foreigner. Our meeting was linguistically hampered by me; my husband, Gudy and his wife all chattered away about politics and parenthood. His wife claims not to speak English, but she definitely understands quite a bit.

Our daughters are the same age and had a lovely time playing together. Ironically, my husband is extremely skeptical of internet friendships and would be very unhappy about my posting pictures of the meetup. However, if I can figure out how to post pictures, I will post my favorite zoo picture of a ring-tailed lemur holding court on a stump. Did I mention how much I love my new telephoto lens?!

One final note: we both thought of Capriox when we saw the goats at the zoo. We looked for some who were standing on each other's backs, but they were busy standing on rocks and eating.

I hope everyone is doing well...sorry I haven't had time to participate actively here in a while. Very busy with life and work. Smile

... the most deeply ironic thing about our meeting was that my wife feels much the same way. Now, y'all get exactly one guess about which two people were most deeply engaged in conversation with each other the whole time. (And if you thought Manoki is curious about everything, you haven't met her husband. She has *nothing* on him when it comes to digging for information.) Biggrin

Still, this calls for a repeat sometime soon. Maybe next time we actually have the opportunity to talk about the History a bit...

*laughs* Thanks for thinking of me! I'm so glad to hear of more meet-ups, I think weblit in general and this story community in particular should participate in more of them!

(I still feel bad about not having one again this summer in the northeast. Ah, well - next year!)

I did know that Gudy was not a native English speaker, but only because of some obscure grammatical discussion that happened here in the forum a long time ago Wink

I think there have been several such discussions where that has come up.
