Book Two begins Tuesday

I think. I'm finishing up chapter one right now. I thought chapter one was going to be chapter two, then realized it really was chapter one after all. :? I know! Persnickety chapters.

Anyway. I'm a little timid just because I have nothing written but an outline for book two, whereas the Warin/Emmae story was in draft form already. Somehow I think that's the only way I'll get it written--knowing you guys are waiting for it and that I have a deadline to meet. Smile So Tuesday it is. Into the unknown, dear friends!

Can't wait to see how it develops.

As for the outline, that's more than many have when they sit down to write. At least you *think* you know where you're going. I say "think" because - as you know - characters don't always behave the way you want them to behave.

Thank you, very much. That was a very nice review to read, especially for #20. (Yes, you guys have earned an extra chapter.)

I'm sorry you don't like the site layout and the number of ads. I have to focus on advertising; if I don't, I'll never make it. I can't keep increasing the "target" on you guys exponentially, and if I didn't have the ads, I wouldn't have an ad budget. (This is the first site I've ever had to advertise; normally it's not a line expense for me.) In time I'm hoping the ads will carry the bulk of the financial load here, not you guys.

As to why I don't center the content: I want people to see what's in the sidebars. If I didn't think it was important stuff, it wouldn't be there. Breaking the paradigm forces people to examine the page. It's still obvious where the story is, and how to get around, but people notice the other stuff rather than tuning it out. When I first started reading DailyKos (where I stole borrowed the format from), it bugged me too, and then I discovered that I really liked it. Not only liked it--preferred it. Give it a chance. The new layout looks a lot better.

People were saying they couldn't see the navigation (even though it's the very first thing on the page), so I raised its font and changed its background--well, actually, the background of everything else. The other common comment was clutter, so I dropped the "recent" blocks and the user points block. I hope it helps.

Oddly, I really liked the recent block. It helped me keep up when I was online, and to see where the recent discussion was otherwise.

Maybe you could (if it's easy, my coding skillz != good at all) make them optional/foldout/dropdown/somesuch.

When following the link, I get a MeiLin Miranda page with this message:
"Page not found
The requested page could not be found."

Either there is something not working properly or you have an ivol (like evil, but not really) sense of humor. Wink

It works now. Annoying thing.

I'm using the "recent posts" link in the far-right column (home to the current President, as well). It's not as straightforward, though.

OK, there's a module that can "fold up" blocks, but I'd need to look into it further.
