The 99 Mirrors of Wa

My new webserial. I just posted the first chapter and would like some feedback. Does this work as a beginning? Do you like/dislike it? Is there anything that would make it more interesting?

The story can be found here:

The first two chapters (really both parts of Chapter 1) can be found here:

I'm excited to have finally gotten started!

I liked it. I felt the tension. This isn't a setting I'm familiar with, so I'll enjoy getting into it.

You're on my list. Keep writing, I'll read!

I'm glad the tension was noticeable--I was worried that it would feel too settled. Was the info-dump obnoxious?

The info dump was not obnoxious; it was scene-setting. I think it's perfectly justified given the apparent richness of your setting. It might have been an info dump in a more familiar world but not here.

I'm reminded (unjustifiably!) of James Clavell's Tai-Pan. I think it's just because I've experienced this sort of setting so rarely.

Keep writing! I'll read you Sunday.

Embodiment

I was reminded, a bit, of Under Heaven by Guy Gavriel Kay (whose books I cannot recommend enough--any and all).

I likes it. Looking forward to more.

Anything that specifically caught your interest?

YES!

Your writing voice is lovely, and the exotic setting is engaging my interest right away.

More please! *bookmarked*

I have an entire home page (no, not THAT kind of homepage) on my iPhone dedicated to web lit. I will have you know that you have just joined the ranks of Clare K R Miller, MeiLin, and AE on that page. After just one update, no less. Bravo!

Thanks for all your comments, everybody! :shy: I hope the story will live up to your expectations. Chapter 2 should be released sometime on Sunday. Stay tuned!

Also, thanks to the three of you who joined the site! Hopefully you will give good feedback. For those of you who want more frequent updates, the story twitter is here:

You haven't got a feed! I request a feed! (It's really easy to get one set up. I forget exactly how, but it should be somewhere under "administrate.")

Taslin's picture

There should be an RSS feed accessible from the primary menu now. Smile I'll see about setting up some more specific feeds tomorrow.

And thus ends Chapter 1. Also, Mirrors is available from the DN main site and dropdown, yayness!

Hate to double-post, but Chapter 2.1 is up. In case you all were wondering if this would be historical fiction...;)

But life finally slowed down enough for me to finish Chapter 2.2. Smile If all goes well, I'll also probably update sometime in the middle of this week.

Enjoy!

At last! Sorry it's been so long. I had to scrap and rewrite a bunch of things since my last post.

Chapter 2.2 has been edited to fit with the new canon, with a bunch of new stuff in the second section. Chapter 2.3 is pretty short, but it finishes off the chapter. Chapter 3 starts next week!
