Merry Christmas! Have a new theme!

Site News

Merry Christmas, everyone! No1 Daughter is running around the house in her new Totoro beanie and "Spanish Inquisition--Unexpected Since 1478" t-shirt. No2 Daughter is playing with a teeny RC car and driving the dog bananas. I am gloating over what to buy with my $10 iTunes gift certificate (ideas?). Sir is hanging out in his new flannel nightshirt from Yule, and we're all eating slices of No2's chocolate orange. In other words, a merry Christmas!

You will note the site looks different *again*. This is as close to a good site design as I've gotten. It's cleaner and 960-pixel compliant, and has a snazzy Tremontine red background that could also double as the wallpaper at Mamzelle's Palace.

This is the obligatory "bitch about the theme change" thread. Smiling Suggestions, bugs, etc. go here.

First things first, it is...

... pretty, I'll grant you that.

As for the bitching:

1. Can we please have the red frame or some other easily visible marker around new posts again?

2. There are two separators between a comment body and the .sig - one long and medium gray, one short and black. Which looks decidedly odd.

3. I find the bit starting with 'Did you like this?' and ending with the CC license a bit distracting where it is positioned right now between the first post and the comments.

4. Comments in Scryer's Gulch episodes have no .sigs (which incidentally looks much, much better/less cluttered, but that may be a consequence of 2., or it may be a general problem of a lack of visual separation between different parts in a page, which would make the problem related to 3.)

5. No badges.

There's probably more, but that's what I found at first glance.

#1 especially.

Particularly if we get back to KK/FN/everybody else epic threads.

It's supposed to be a challenge, that's why they call it a shortcut. If it was easy it would just be the way.

1. Can do, once I find the CSS--I lost the "new" markers when I clicked away from this page to reply.

2. Done. Didn't notice this, thanks.

3. That's positioned like that for a reason. I want people to see all that *before* they read comments, because more folks than you think don't read comments, and the "do something" and the copyright notice/these are drafts notice need to be above the comments. So that's not changing. I can play with visual separators. Maybe box the copyright?

4. That's probably a toggle I didn't switch for SG pages and the sig plug-in. I will toggle.

5. There are badges, I promise. I suggest making sure your theme is set to default or fusion_meilin.

ETA: Yikes, no badges! Completely spaced on what you meant. I will fix this instanter.

We don't need no steenkin' badges!

Sorry, I had to say that.

ETA: And now that I've said it and switched my theme... WOW! It's so pretty!

Love the background!

But I'm sad that new comments are difficult (as others before me mentioned) to see and the lack of badges.

Background is definitely a win.

Edit: I also just noticed that on my view of the page, the banner in the header reads "Meilin Miran"

Laureril: In the left of the pair of sidebars, scroll down to the theme-switching option (right below the amazon store link) and switch to Fusion_meilin. That fixed it for me, and it also fixed the links at the top of the page. I was still logging in under the original theme before, so although I got the new red wallpaper, I wasn't actually logged in under the new theme. Had to manually switch over.

The good: pretty wallpaper! It works so nicely, too! I like all the link re-arranging, too. Not so sure about how the double sidebar looks, but I think that might be 'cos I've never seen one before (me & novelty, not such a good relationship) and it certainly works as an organizational tool.

The not-so-good: I second Gudy's five points.

Indeed

The header banner also reads "Meilin Miran" to me. (In fact, I only get about 2/3 of that last N, too.)

I think you had the wrong theme selected. I went into your account and selected the proper one; tell me what happens now.

er, well...

I do, but what's floating my boat these days:

--Tribalistas, a modern Brazilian group that just has a really beautiful mellow, rhythmic sound--liking modern Brazilian (like more traditional samba, too, but digging the more recent stuff)

--Middle Eastern, world and fusion--stuff I can practice dancing to

--Interesting, original string quartets, like the Section String Quartet. Kronos is good, but I don't really care for modern classical music; it's too discordant and cerebral. Some of it is made primarily for music theoreticians, not for listeners.

I get so much of my music needs met by Pandora, it's hard to choose. If I had to pick any one of these, it'd be the Middle Eastern stuff because Pandora has a bad world music selection beyond reggae and tropical.
