OK, so whenever I have enough time to kill that I want a book running many hundreds of pages and filled with good stuff, I see if James Michener has written anything that is not yet on my bookshelf. Found one!
The Novel is unique among his stories...it's written in overlapping arcs from 4 points of view: writer, editor, critic, and reader. While it still contains a solid plot, it also gets down into the details of how big-name publishing works. It first came out in 1991, but some of the things it points out make me think very much of Alexandra Erin over on Tales of MU. Plus, it's set in southeastern PA, not far from where I grew up.
Summary: Good read, classic Michener, you won't go wrong.
It's a brand new me, I got no remorse, now the water's rising but I know the course. I'm gonna shock the world, gonna show Bad Horse, it's a brand new day.
