Thu, 10/29/2009 - 11:24am
I'm gonna turn 21 in a country where I can already drink. It's taking away my last positive milestone birthday!
Thu, 10/29/2009 - 11:45am
Yes, that does take away a bit from the significance of the milestone.
But then again, you'll be able to get the irish whiskey without the import tax...
Thu, 10/29/2009 - 11:47am
25: run for congress, rent a car (without ricockulous surcharges)
(b) 30: run for senate
(c) 35: run for president
Thu, 10/29/2009 - 11:54am
While all are noble (in theory if not practice) professions, those are expensive endeavors.
Providing you meet the other legal restrictions, residency, Hatch Act, etc...
Thu, 10/29/2009 - 2:33pm
Trust me- it's much better than coming back from a place where you can drink and still being underage here. And you can still have an awesome celebration! When I was in Ireland over the summer, the locals were celebrating their 21st birthdays in very much the same way as we would here. Not sure why exactly, but they play it up just as much as we do.
Fri, 10/30/2009 - 5:06am
My little brother turned 21 in a country where alcohol was illegal, so we had to wait the better part of a year before he could visit home and I could buy him his first legal drink.
Congratulations on Oxford, I hope you love it there.
Thu, 10/29/2009 - 11:42am

Fri, 10/30/2009 - 3:54pm
Studying abroad, but I'm in my third year of undergrad.
Fri, 10/30/2009 - 4:02pm
to that school we beat this Fall, you're a Junior, then.
Sat, 10/31/2009 - 12:10pm
ah- that makes the most sense.
Here I was thinking you were either one of those super genius (and crazy annoying) kids who graduated high school at like sixteen, or one of the slackers like me, and had taken two years off
Neither one seemed to fit too well

I was living in London. The best advice I can give you is to make friends with the locals. I went over with a bunch of Americans, and I was the only one with a bunch of British friends (I hardly spent any time with the American kids). Not only do I feel like I got a better feel for the country and actually lived there, instead of just being a tourist, I now have couches to sleep on if I ever want to go back.
