Sterling RenFest meet-up report

V, scrapper, Raigne, Raigne's friend, and I all met up at the opening of the Sterling Renaissance festival without trouble, yay! We enjoyed wandering around looking at all the Ye Olde Shoppes with their pretties and shinies (and hammocks!), and taking in the various performances - washing wenches, Don Juan & Miguel (& the lovely Esmeralda), the Queen's court, jousting, etc. Scrapper wore her Warrior Temple's t-shirt and V wore a Lover's Temple one and we did get a couple comments on them, especially since V was the only gentleman in the company of four ladies... Wink

Unfortunately as the afternoon went on, the high heat and humidity took it's toll, and I also learned that recovering from a stomach flu + any activity = Bad Idea. I ended up having to duck out without a proper good-bye to get myself home to finish recovering. The lack of cell phone reception at the festival didn't help with the end-of-the-day-disorganization either *wry*.

I did take a couple pictures early on that I'll post here as soon as I get them off the camera (stupid media card reader not reading :grumblegrumble:). And even if it didn't go perfectly well, I'm still glad I got to meet you guys Smile

Also, V, did you ever go back and buy that hammock?

... green with envy, pretty much as predicted.

Apart from the recovering from stomach flu bit, that sounds like entirely too much fun.

So what's it with the hammocks? Also, PIXPLZ! Smile

Have no website or I'd link you. There's a hammock merchant there every year, who sells these super comfortable single person hammocks.

(I have tried them before, really, I didn't this time because the corset probably wouldn't work out to well for me.)

Yeah, I have a feeling V called for the group photo while Sam and I were watching the trial and dunke, and I didn't get the beep from my voice mail until we were already in the parking lot and I was stripping down for the ride home.

It was a fun day, though, and I was glad to meet you guys. I'm sorry you had to leave early, and hope you're feeling better today. Did you manage to grab a turkey leg for you mother?

I am feeling a MUCH better today, thanks! I'm even attempting to eat real food again for lunch today - if it goes as well as the super-simple carbs I had for breakfast, I might even say I'm over it.

And no, I didn't get the turkey leg. The smell of grease and meat was making my stomach queasy just while I was walking around the festival. I was afraid being trapped in a hot car with it was gonna be too much. Guess we'll just have to try it again next year Wink

And here's most of the gang at the hammock vendor: scrapper in the hammock, V standing by her, Raigne's friend in the multicolored skirt, and Raigne in her garb. I took the picture while I was sitting in another one of the hammocks hanging up.

They're 100% cotton (and the cotton is from North Carolina, the vendor told us several times - not sure why that's important except in a 'buy USA' way), easy to get into and out of, washable, adjustable and very comfy. When I started to crash later, we went back so I could spend some time resting in one of the hammocks. As I was reclining and eating grapes, the vendor even came over to fan me a little bit with one of the feathered fans they sell at the festival. ;-D

... for a hammock seat, although I prefer full-size hammocks myself. But you can't really complain about the customer service. Biggrin

Hey guys! I had a great time too, other than the heat.. but it was good to meet you guys! Sorry we ducked out without a proper goodbye, we tried to get you guys on the cell, but with the bad reception, obviously it didn't work out so well. We had to get on the road to make the long trip back to CT. But perhaps next year we will can be more organized Smile Sign of a good trip though, car full of booze Smile Absinthe, Yuengling beer, and wine that we can't find here in CT!  So no complaints there! And yes, V got a hammock!

I think I got some pretty good shots of the jousting, I'll have to get them up here as well, when I get the chance! But nice to meet you guys, I had a great time!

LOL. Yes, we learned our lesson: next time, take the group photo FIRST.

In addition to ensuring you get everyone in the shot, you're all nice and fresh since it's the beginning of the day. I don't know about y'all, but the first thing I did when I got in the car was blow my nose, and a great deal of dust came out of it.

I apologize to you guys for not saying a proper goodbye--the heat+exhaustion+as mentioned, the long drive coming up meant that we took off after snagging a hammock. They don't have a website but http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Makeup/2737/artists2.html (Crysalis) or Capriox's picture gives the general idea. Yes, we'll have to take and post a pic once I get it installed--and maybe even one of Scrapper or her tee Wink

The turkey legs were *really* good. They were practically big enough to be ostrich legs or something ridiculous.

Capriox--I hope you're feeling better today. In fact, given your condition I'm impressed you even made the trip--I guess they make farm girls pretty tough *grin*
