LiveJournal Community

It has been discussed in another thread (coincidently started by yours truly) that some people might be interested in starting a LiveJournal community for Other People's Stories. The idea is that we would have a place to write our stories, read other stories by the community here, and critique all while keeping it away from the general public in order to preserve potential publishing rights.

I believe Raigne has offered to actually start the community, but it seems it needs a name. Post your name choice, or if you're even interested. Also, if you have a LiveJournal, feel free to link it here.

At the moment, Zandu Inkis nekkid, but I do have words on Phrankenstyne's Monster. PM is currently friends locked, so if you'd like access, just let me know.

Eleonora offered to do it first. I offered to do it if she felt more comfortable having someone else do it. Blum 3 I wouldn't want to steal it from someone else.

I got no name ideas. I am terrible at that sort of thing. (this is a lie, I am awesome at it, just too lazy.)

I am unfamiliar with that terminology.

"Historians Anonymous"?

"Writing to Pass the Time Until the Hiatus Is Over"?

"MLM Forum Writers, United"?

Raigne's picture

Embodiment

Historians Anonymous, but it's not really about the History even if it's a common tie. I was trying to think of something to do with Nerr, since he's the patron of fiction, but there could be non-fiction posted and the best I could come up with was something like Nerr's Pen, or Nerr's Quill, which just sounds like an unsubtle euphemism. :x

Zandu Ink's picture

Embodiment

I very much like Nerr's Quill.

Which God is responsible for non-fiction? I imagine Eddin or Pagg.

Seth Gray's picture
Capriox's picture

I thought of that, too, but then it made me think of the "alternate history" genre (see: series by Naomi Novik and Eric Flint if you're unfamiliar with the term). I happen to enjoy that genre on occasion, but I don't know that we all want to be confused with it.

Eleonora's picture

I'm a bit much tired at the moment and responded on the previous thread. A separate thread is actually much more useful. I'm willing to make the community, got enough time for it this weekend. As for names I'll repeat my stupid brainstorm:

Intimate Writers (or Writing Circle)
Tremontine Writers

They are quite lame, but will maybe put someone in the right direction

The Alternate Historians is Laurell K. Hamiltons writing group, so I think that's a no to that one. I do think history is good to use though. Maybe Tremontine Historians?

Seth Gray's picture

Devotee

Ooh, I quite like Intimate Writers. It has a community feel and says straight up what we're about.

Alistair Thorne's picture

I vote for Tremontine Writers simply because it is generic enough to cover anything while still referencing the History.

There is nothing wrong with unsubtle euphemisms. But ya, unless we are all planning to include elements of sex...we probably shouldn't use such a name for the group imo anyway.

Raigne's picture

Embodiment

For the same reason. There's nothing that it could imply or misrepresent to someone stumbling upon the community, but clearly indicates how this particular LJ community got started. Also gives us an excellent excuse to link back to here for advertising purposes. Not that we require an excuse, but it makes the link relevant.

Zandu Ink's picture

I think we are missing a golden opportunity in naming the comm.

I vote...
.

.
.
.
Subtext. It is a staple of the History, it is a common link we all share, and since it would showcase "texts" from a "sub"group of MeiLin readers, it would fit.

TheBoy's picture

Embodiment

I like it.
Have points.

Raigne's picture

Embodiment

Tremontine Subtext? I can almost guarantee you that subtext by itself will be taken.

Zandu Ink's picture

Embodiment

Or is that repetatively redundant?

Raigne's picture

Embodiment

My suggestion at that point would be to find something even more obviously redundant and go with that. Blum 3

MeiLin's picture

Most High

No, you guys, go with subtext! or subtextual! Biggrin

Raigne's picture

Embodiment

but if it's not taken as an account name, I'll eat my underwear*. I think we'll be obligated to pick something else for the actual account name.

ETA: Subtextual isn't bad. It makes me want to start adding random suffixes to it for comical effect. Subtextable. Subtextoid. Subtextation. Subtextagogy.

And some of them actually sounded cool... Subtextacy, for example.

*user notes that she will not, in fact, actually eat her underwear. She has enough digestive problems already.

Seth Gray's picture

Devotee

Subtextacy is great, I vote on that one.

Subtextuous, subtextatious, subtextion...wow, you're right, that is fun. Acutally, looking at my half-ass list "subtextuous" is kinda fun to say.

Zandu Ink's picture

Embodiment

I think that rings of Word of God.

The Most High has spoken. Subtext in some form is the winner.

Capriox's picture

Embodiment

Amen.

I like the straight-up versions of "Subtext" or "Tremontine Subtext". Of the fancier versions, Subtextacy is okay (Subtextastic?) or Subtextology.

Raigne's picture

Embodiment

Subtextalicious. Subtexting. Subtexted. Subtextdom. Subtexticle. Subtextence. Subtextery. Subtextage. Subtextomy. Subtexticide.

Capriox's picture

Embodiment

Oooh, Subtextdom! It has an echo of "Kingdom", as in part of the title of this story, so that's something. Subtextery and Subtextage have promise, too.

Not so fond of Subtexting or Subtexted because it looks too much like sexting and we don't need to go near that hysteria.

Subtexticle - I read that as "Subtesticle" initially.

Subtexticide... !?! :O

Domtextsub!
I don't care what we call it as long as it's there. I have two partial stories up at my DeviantArt page, but getting artists interested in writing seems like getting cats interested in water. I'll even break down and get a Livejournal account if it means I can get some sort of feedback.

I think Subtext as a community name, nicely straightforward. I vote for Tremontine_Subtext as an account name, it kind of says everything.

Seth Gray's picture

Devotee

I think Tremontine_subtext makes it sound like we'd just be talking about the History.

Eleonora's picture

lookie here, a poll:

http://www.doodle.com/yzwizbhin5nfrrih

you can vote for two. if you want me to add more options, please tell me, I sort of guessed from the comments which were the most popular.

Alistair Thorne's picture

broken. Blum 3

It is limiting people to two votes per option.

Me thinks we need a new poll. Or fix that one. xD

If people are impatient.

Raigne's picture

Embodiment

Changing what I said, because now I'm not understanding what was happening. It was only letting people put two votes maximum in each category? Cause now we have someone who voted for three and someone who voted for one.

ETA: Also, it appears Blue Coyote voted before the switch but after some of the options got filled up, so her votes may not be what she actually wants for the name.

Alistair Thorne's picture

Nothing stops anyone from asking their votes to be changed.

Eleonora's picture

Devotee

Let's use the new poll. I probably just misunderstood. weird weird pollies. New poll works. I like Intimate_subtext.
I'm in favour for a flakey subtitle, something like:
Subtext, An Intimate Guide to Greater Writing.
or intimate circle for ... or something.

Alistair Thorne's picture

That works for me. How long should we run this poll for guys?

Zandu Ink's picture

Embodiment

By Monday we should have a good idea how many want to participate. That will give people the weekend to do stuff and still check in on the site.

Alistair Thorne's picture

So Tuesday Morning the poll closes? Works for me.

Eleonora's picture

Devotee

I say tomorrow. I'd like to start making the community during the weekend. The account name is not that important, I think. But if you really want to run it for longer, that'd be ok too. You'd have to have a little more patience then.

Alistair Thorne's picture

If you want to start it this weekend, then go ahead. Wink

Just say who the winner is and that the pool is closed whenever today.

The only reason I have the livejournal account is for if this works out. xD

Raigne's picture

Embodiment

Can you really be certain you'll never want to use it again? Can't you just get a tool that will lock the whole thing up if you didn't want certain people to see it?

Shade's picture

It's been about two years since I've even looked at it and I'm sick of it sneakily signing me in when I have other options :P. I've also been considering starting an actual blog and don't really feel the need to have an LJ connection. None of my friends use it, etc etc.

Eleonora's picture

Devotee

Ok, I'm starting the community. The poll is closed. The name is going to be intimate_subtext (redundancy rules). Please reply to this post if you want to get an invite. Zandu, which one of your accounts do you want to use?

EDIT: Intimate_subtext was one letter too long, so I went with the runner-up: subtextacy

Since it took me a bit to figure it out where it was and I noticed a couple people have yet to join, and thus can't participate in the policy discussion going on until they do, you have to accept the invite. To accept it, go to LJ's homepage, look under communities, and then go to Manage your Invites. Not that I think you couldn't figure it out, but I know some people haven't accepted theirs yet and may not have seen my earlier comment about it. (I'm looking at you MeiLin, Fairnymph and Kittae)
