Holey Written Word Batman

I've sure been writing a lot in these past 5 weeks & 5 days. It's not even been 6 weeks & I've already gained my Postulant badge. Dance 4Dance 4

Believe me, I'm not usually this talkative no matter what the incentive. I'm far more a listener than a speaker.

I'm far too shy to reach anything that quickly Biggrin It only took me four months to get up the nerve to post my last forum topic and all...

Besides, it's summer. It is time for chatting with friendly online people! Clearly Smile

Hey chatting with people online keeps me from getting another nasty sunburn. :biglol:

Stupid Anglo-Germanic blood in veins. Only dancer at many pow-wows who routinely gets burned to a crisp. SPF 45 waterproof sunblock wears off after twenty min of hard dancing. :cuss: May have to start wearing my sacred paints to protect myself better. :?

I'll have to ask my friend Ellen what she does, she has the same kind of skin. There were all sorts of interesting shaped sunburns in high school. You can get hair sunburn lines, apparently Biggrin How bad is this one? I hope not too bad...

I am deathly pale but do not burn. Or tan. I am Vampire Girl. Permanently white Biggrin

... from getting sunburned on the part in my hair is that I don't have one (part, that is - yay for curlies Smile ). Our daughter, though, does wear her hair parted on occasion. After she got a mild burn there last summer, we're teaching her to either wear hats or forgo parted hair over the summer months.

I routinely got part-line sunburns as a child! owie owie owie owie! I wear hats now. Funny, everywhere else I tend to burn the first time I'm out but then tan. This year I'm getting a tan for the first time in I can't remember how long. My legs and arms, mostly. It's weird.

A couple of years ago I got so badly sunburned that my skin split open allowing a yeast infection to take hold of my entire chest. my chest still has some scars from that. I've been ordered to avoid bad burns like that again. My last burn wasn't that bad, but I prefer to not court skin cancer.

I like to spend this time of year guessing who all works at the local Renaissance Festival. I like to people-watch anyhow, but there's one tell-tale sign of weekend employment over the summer: bodice burn.

Some of the pirate guys get a vest-burn, but bodice burn is much more noticeable. It's where they chick was wearing a bodice with a big flowy chemise underneath. Especially on the back, you can spot these two vertical lines of super-burn where the straps of the bodice and the neckline of the shirt didn't line up very well.

The little strip of skin on the upper arms just below the shoulders. That area is often deliberately left uncovered & therefore exposed. & burns very nicely too. Guess how I know.

Funny thing is, my last burn was a bodice burn too.

Tih tih, I'm one of those lucky girls who tan and do not burn. But, then again, I hate the hot summer days and lurk in the basement of our house.

Last year I tanned in Italy and freaked out about my shoulder every time I saw it -> It looked like some stranger was riiiight next to me. Creeped the hell out of me for 6 months until it faded away. Yes, I am a very smart child Party

The only ones in my family who burn, Father, sister, brother, son, niece, & nephew all just get browner. Me?? "dead fish white - lobster red - peal like snake - dead fish white." to use my son's unflattering description. I prefer lily white but he likes the full creature line description.

I wish I could at least be a little darker when all the peeling's done! My shoulders get a little bit freckly, but that's it. Mostly can't even see that because summer bugs see me as a delicious buffet. = P

The love me too

I try to eat a diet rich in alkaline during the spring & summer months.

Lots of lemon, grapefruit, & apple cider vinegar help a lot. As do spicy foods. Skin so soft helps a lot too.

Gudy's picture

... thoroughly confused. The alkaline diet doesn't seem to me to go well with lots of lemon and vinegar...

Re: spicy food. You mean like this?

Those are acidic, which is the opposite of alkaline. I'm tired and couldn't put my finger on what was wrong there. Possibly also due to being in art mode. Painting something in photoshop, so my problem solving skills are being funneled into figuring out where the shadows and highlights need to be on the various parts of a glowing pumpkin carriage...

I should have said either alkaline or acidic based diets help along with Skin So Soft by Avon

Oh good Lord. SO glad I'm dark.

Hubby recently went from shaggy to fauxhawk and the man *refuses* to wear sunscreen Banghead It was rather hilarious to see his pale forehead appear above his post-burn tanned face, though.

That's sorta like a proper farmer's tan.

The Real Farmer's Tan: semi-permanently burnt red-brown that covers the arms up to the t-shirt line, the face up to the hat line (eastern or western style), and of course all around the neck! There will also be a white line on the left ring finger from the wedding band that you'd never take off and probably can't anyways 'cos your fingers have gotten so thick and rough since the wedding day.

Off to work on mine some more... (unloading hay in 80F sunshine is oh so fun!)

When I drove a Dakota I'd get a tan neck and a tan line that showed when I got my spring hair cut.

I need to lose some weight, want a hand with that hay? I wish it was only 80. It's damn near 90 here and with last nights rain and this mornings fog, damn humid.

Bring a pair of work gloves and a sturdy back, and you can start. Whether or not you can keep up with me (or even tougher, the Mexican guys who've been doing this for years), now that's another story Wink

It got up to a muggy 85 here, but then we just had a nice rockin'n'rollin' thunderstorm line pass through and dropped the air temp 6-7 degrees.

Raigne's picture

But it didn't do a damn thing for the humidity. I still won't be able to sleep tonight.

Of course. It's hotter here with all the buildings trapping the heat.

a few times too. Have a friend who once managed to get a full head to toe sunburn. He literally managed to sunburn the soles of his feet.

Ehhhehheh, I went canoeing with no sunscreen... my arms, neck and the insides of my knees are bright pink. I burn pretty easily anyway, but that was just huge stupidity.

Also, man, I need to post more, I've been here the better part of two books and I'm still pretty low-ranked.

I've been registered for over a year, but I've only been posting for about 5 months I think. And I'm still way behind people who've been posting for way less than me.
