I SPEAK AND YOU SHALL LISTEN

If any of you get that joke I know I am not the only person who reads a lot of books, and then researches said books online. }:)
Anyway i have been reading for a while now, since somewhere in early book two I think. I thought I should make an account even though I almost never actually post online, I usually am much more entertained by reading other peoples theories and rants so if this is the last you hear from me don't be surprised.

I don't get the joke, but that's okay! Welcome!

Its a reference to how the Dark One talks in the Wheel of Time series the exact comment came from a short fan fiction i read a few years ago.

You should have given these crazy people more time. haha

Also, your quote/signature thing is hilarious.

Shadow_Slayer74's picture

I read that somewhere but for the life of me can't remember where, it has been my signature for posts and emails for almost ten years now.

Sorry, I don't often devolve into fanboy-ism for anything, but Wheel of Time is, in my opinion, among the best fantasy series ever published (here's hoping it doesn't get screwed up at the end here)

In any case, welcome, I never thought I'd post all that much either, but the folks here have a way of drawing us lurkers out of our shells (although it really is quite roomy and comfortable in there, but I digress)

I'm shutting up now. Wink

The only thing -I- could think of when I saw the title was Halo. It's close to what the gravemind says. 'I shall speak and you shall listen.'

Yup... I'm a :nerd:

I haven't read the wheel of time series. Honestly I probably never will.

Shadow_Slayer74's picture

They are good books if you give them a chance, but no big if you don't go for them.

I fully believe that they are good books. I just don't want to get pulled into them as they go on and on and on and...stop, unfinished.

Shadow_Slayer74's picture

Another author is taking over the series and plans on finishing within the next few years, I guess.

Brander Sanderson, the author of the Mistborn books, is writing the 3 remaining books with the help of all the notes Jordan left behind. The first one, The Gathering Storm, should be available in november.

Ugh... I thought I had heard it was only 1 more that was coming out this year. But three more makes more sense, as I was trying to figure out how they were going to cram everything left that needed to be resolved into one. I love the series, but waiting between books just kills me! When I started it way back when the first 6 were already out, so I figured it would be done by the time I got to the end of those, never expecting it to go to so many books! Typical scifi/fantasy I suppose. At least it is something to look forward to. Hopefully Sanderson is up to the challenge....

One of my buddies refused to start reading Wheel of Time until a.) Jordan finished writing the books, or b.) The series ended because Jordan dropped dead.

He's now had to form a contingency plan since neither criteria has been completely met.

I'm the same way about commenting - I get so engrossed in reading other people's discussions that I forget to contribute! But I'm slowly getting better and posting more. The quest for badges really helps Biggrin

welcome in. Pardon i don't post often, either, but when i have some little comment to contribute. (which is still very, very rare.) and i didn't get your title reference, but i happen to love your icon. pure fabulousness. the whale's monologue is probably one of my favorite bits. Pardon

Shadow_Slayer74's picture

The whales monologue is to long for a graphic.

Could do it with a gif, but possibly better just to make it a short quip about existentialism and leave it there...

Welcome:)

commenting can be a bit daunting. still have to work up the nerve to do so myself. but i'm gradually getting more comfortable with it. my main handicap is the work schedule i have. most of my thoughts are usually expressed by the time i check in.

Which is why I usually just post an agreement and something extra. Or you could just do what TheBoy does and make snarky comments when you have nothing useful to add. (No, I will not debate the usefulness of snarky comments)

Then again, I'm a pointwhore chatty person...

I got both the references but only because I was just discussing favourite story quotes with a few friends the other day and someone else used that line.

I love the whale monologue too. It's so typical of the best parts of Douglas Adams books. The hangover sequence form book one, chapter one is very similar. Yellow...

Welcome to the insanity! We all have fun in this little padded cell of the intarwebs.
