Finally gracing the forums with my presence

Hello all,
Avid reader and longtime lurker finally stepping out of the shadows to join the forums... I guess a little about me? I'm an art student studying in Georgia (Jawjuh), with no idea where I want to go or what I want to do with my life. Which seems to be the standard for art students anyways.
Meilin, post more chapters! Blum 3

Hello, and welcome to the forums. What is your focus in art (medium, style, etc...)?

Georgia! Are you a native, or just there for college? I like visiting Georgia, but that's mostly because my mother's side of the family is from Georgia.

(That's right, this here Yankee farm gal is half Southern Belle).

...is there anything? I drive to Florida maybe once ever few years, and I always just sort of drive right through. Is there anything I should stop and see while I'm there? I always feel like I have no idea where to start or what I should look for.

There is PLENTY to do if you're in Atlanta, Macon, or Athens--one of the big cities. There's a nice little place called "Little Five Points" in the Atlanta-y area where they have tons of hippie shops, rave-centric second-hand stores, steam punk outlets, an alternative department store called Junkman's Daughter, and the Vortex (a place where the door is a giant skull's open mouth). We usually stop by this area on the way to visit folks to eat at the sushi buffet at a place called Ru-San's. Not to mention all the awesome museums and stuff.

But out here in the middle-of-nowhere college town? We can eat fast food, or see a movie. I guess go to a bar, but they're all redneck bars.

If I'm ever in the area, I think I'm just going to print out your post and go find all those places. Atlanta sounds nuts! Now I can't believe I missed it, all those times I've driven down the east coast.

It's easy to miss, really. Atlanta has such a huge sprawl and most of it is crap. = P

I'm an illustration major, and I'm still kind of all over the board as far as style and medium goes. I prefer watercolors but I'm still having fun experimenting with different techniques. I'm originally from Connecticut, and I've been going to school in Savannah for 3 years now, and absolutely love it. Yall can check out my website if you want Smile

make the same noise as sheep? I've never met a goat, but I have seen sheep.
(Actually, we went to Europe once, and we were wandering around the countryside, and there was this huge beautiful green hill with all these beautiful sheep on it. We ran up the hill to see the sheep, and no one noticed the condition of the hill until the kid with flip-flops started freaking out. From then on, it was known as Sheep-Shit Hill. The sheep were really cool, though.)

IME, sheep say "baaaaa" and goats say "mehhhhhh." I love them both.

I wonder if there is a petting zoo around here or something that would have goats. Maybe I'll have to look into it. I feel goofy doing stuff like that as a mostly-grown-up, but I find it's always worth it in the end.

either way, that was the perfect picture...

What Meilin said, although I would argue that goats are generally cuter and smarter Wink

@NorthwoodsMan - thanks!

Sheep are pretty damn dumb and goats are pretty smart.

Yeah, I'm always trying to encourage fan art. One of us sends some in from time to time, but I think she's mad at us right now...I hope not...

Anyway, welcome! There are a few Southern types or folks living in the South round these parts. I'm sure you'll feel at home. Smile

Haha well I'm definitely a yank through and through, but I'm trying to hang around my friends with accents in the hope that I'll get some sort of a southern drawl by the time I graduate haha. And I have been wanting to do some fan art, I've just been so busy with my classes this quarter... I'm trying to finish making a book. I know it's hard to write chapters Meilin, but be glad you don't have to illustrate them too haha

Also, thank you, whoever segued my intro thread into a mini-goat discussion. Awesome haha

Capriox's picture

Southern drawls are awesome indeed; I love having that in my family. Just be careful that yours doesn't get so thick that people can't understand you (I remember having an interesting time trying to play word games with my great aunts when I was little!). And if any of your work is accessible online (deviant art account perhaps?), add a link to it here so we can check your stuff out Smile

Also, it's totally NorthwoodsMan's fault about the goats. Really. I'm just a supplier. Wink

I think TB shares in that with his innuendo.

Just remember, if you stay there after you graduate, you're not just a yankee anymore. Your a damn yankee.

Whoops, my bad! I just stopped by and I can say right off that I liked the Mucha picture on the home page - fantastic job with the knotted, draped skirt.

(Yeah, my super-power is obliviousness. Social obliviousness in particular, but not exclusively. *sighs*)

I'm from Burlington... it's ok if you don't know where that is, people from towns right next to us don't know either sometimes haha

Bristol, right? I grew up a little north of Hartford, so not too far from there.

LaurenF's picture

Close enough at least, it takes 20 minutes to get anywhere from my town, but Bristol is one of the towns that kind-of-borders us
