Here is Ellika in her ridiculous "centerpiece hat" from book one. She is the character most modeled after an actual person, in this case, the actress Kimberly Nixon.
taller. As it is, it isn't so bad. I also thought her dress would be poofier (regardless of which dress - I figured they were all pretty poofy).
But those aren't complaints. Just saying I imagined differently. I do like this very much. Especially the detailed face. Very nice.
...a very charming production indeed if you get the chance to see it. I'd already had Ellika's look in my head, and when I saw Miss Nixon all dolled up in mid-Victorian garb my jaw dropped. There was Elly, big as life!
Elly has red hair??? How did I not know this!? I thought Fen was pretty much our only redhead, along with maybe one or two very minor characters. I also tend to imagine princesses having long hair, but Ellika /is/ the type to try something non-traditional for the sake of fashion
is the same color as Temmin's, a golden color that in some lights might look red, especially next to the roses in her hat. Her hair is longer than it looks in this portrait.
Red hair runs in the Wallek family, as it does in many Sairish families; Mihall, Bernid and Fen all have/had variations on red, with Fen's being the brightest and most obnoxious--rather like Fen. Brinnid's hair is also red, a darker, more russet color.
That fits her - she's such a sunny person! Huh, I completely forgot about Brinnid's russet hair. His portrait will be an interesting one to see too, if we get one.
I missed the "it does in many Sairish families" the first time. But certinaly caught the part about Milhal, Bernid, and Fen all having red hair. Of course the first thought was about a possible family relationship. That's what I get for reading comments after working on genealogy.
Doesn't she have a corset on under that? Or is it underbust? No, you've mentioned squishing boobs back into corsets... I'm just wondering how the dress gets to be so form-fitting around the bust!
This is one of those outfits that reminds me that really, things are later (chronologically-as-our-world-ran speaking) than I tend to think of them; they've got trains already, if I remember right. Yet I always think of it as feudal, so the image of "trains and knights" confuses the hell outta me. The dress goes with the "trains" part of that, rather than the "knights".
You spoiled the surprise! That was an actual project I had for way down the line. For if ever anyone should be a paper doll, it's Elly. She changes clothes five or six times a day.
what I was picturing, I seriously imagined the dress would be more like this http://idzit.deviantart.com/art/Pink-Polonaise-04-59670684 (especially with the hat! PS. how do you embed pictures??)
and I thought she'd have lots more hair and all curled up.
It took me a few months to pin down that I had been subconsciously substituting Hanae Niijima from Red String as my mental image of Ellika. I hate to pigeonhole the original characters of different authors in that way, and I broke myself of it once I realised what I was doing, but it is great to finally get a solid image to go along with Ellika.

RL Twin
I Googled Kimberly Nixon and came up with this image:
Which amused me
that's from "Cranford"

O_O

Brinnid is a redhead?
Is it long? Does he have a beard?
Nope
Clean-shaven and short-haired.
Darn
He looks less like my boyfriend than I hoped, then.
Ohh ok.

Yes, there will be a Brinnid portrait
The order is here. Jenks is next and I may bump Brinnid up. Right now he's after Harsin and Ansella.
Relations?
I missed the "it does in many Sairish families" the first time. But certinaly caught the part about Milhal, Bernid, and Fen all having red hair. Of course the first thought was about a possible family relationship. That's what I get for reading comments after working on genealogy.
I'm not giving anything away
by saying that Bern and Fen are descendents of Mihall Wallek.
Nice!
I like it all. In my head, though, Ellika would have had to have a sash for that dress, or a belt of some sort... and have it be toe length. =)
walking dress
This was a dress for walking in the gardens. After tea with Temmin, she changed.
Aha!
Makes perfect sense now. Thanks! Carry on.
Thought it would be more Victorian
With lots of poof at the shoulders and hips!
Doesn't she have a corset on under that? Or is it underbust? No, you've mentioned squishing boobs back into corsets... I'm just wondering how the dress gets to be so form-fitting around the bust!
Young and fresh
She looks younger than Temmin here. Very sweet face. I like the hat.
Temmin spends more time outside
But Elly also has a baby face.

She is
Absolutely lovely. I pictured her a little more blonde and her clothing a bit poofier, but she is a vision of loveliness.
the neat thing
is to look at Temmin, Sedra and Ellika together. Alice did a great job finding a family resemblance among them all in just the ways I asked her to.
Oh my goodness, she's just
Oh my goodness, she's just adorable! Now I can *see* why she gets away with being a (benign) spoiled little Princess-with-a-capital-P-thank-you. ee!
yanno what...
I think you need dress-up dolls. Just paper ones, KWIM? Then you get all sorts of different outfits on your fave character.
darn you!
You spoiled the surprise! That was an actual project I had for way down the line. For if ever anyone should be a paper doll, it's Elly. She changes clothes five or six times a day.
oops
I'm sorry. ;-;
you are forgiven
^_^
;-)
put me down for 1 each of Teacher, Brinnid, and Sedra
I totally see the resemblence
I totally see the resemblence between the siblings, awesome.
Very lovely
Ellika looks great and that's a nice dress. There is a young lady that can break hearts very easly.
I like her face, but her body
I like her face, but her body and breasts look really stiff to me.
blame
blame the dress. I'd play with those tits (if my lady would permit...).
Not quite
what I was picturing, I seriously imagined the dress would be more like this http://idzit.deviantart.com/art/Pink-Polonaise-04-59670684 (especially with the hat! PS. how do you embed pictures??)

What a cutie
